WEIRD or ODD Eggs pics!!!! :)

Pics
I have 4 hens that have been laying for a while - think the last one to start was about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I got this weird egg but don't know who laid it. Is this normal or does somebody have a problem? The chickens all look & act ok. Anyone know what's going on?

I have eggs like these now and then. Nothing to be concerned about. Most people who raise chickens have had eggs like these. The picture on the bottom of the egg with the wrinkles and flat spot on one side do usually have a thinner shell. Do your girls get oyster shells? I have dishes is all of my coops with free choice oyster shell so the girls can take whatever whenever they want.

The shell wasn't thin it was just flat. I haven't given them any oyster shell - do I need to give it to them even if the shells aren't soft or thin?

Quote: I guess not if the shells are ok. Oyster shells are calcium. The calcium does help make the shells harder. Many people who buy my eggs tell me that the shells are quite a bit harder to crack open than eggs from the store. Usually the eggs I have gotten with the wrinkles and a flat side have been thinner shelled than the normal eggs. Many people who raise chicken do provide the oyster shells for the added calcium and I also give my birds granite grit because I do give them grain and seed mix for treats and the grit goes into their crop because chickens don't have teeth and the grit in their crop help to grind the grain and seeds they eat. All chickens will pick up small stones for their crops but many they pick up normally are much softer than grit and wear down much faster. Most grit that you buy from feed stores is made of granite which is quite hard. This is just what I do.

Quote: It depends on what feed you use. Layer feeds have added calcium to be fed to just layers.

I free feed a 20% protein flock raiser crumble to all ages and genders of my confined flock, and a separate free feed container of oyster shell mixed with dried and crushed chicken egg shell for the layers.
Much easier, IMO, to buy one feed and offer the shell...and the higher protein balances out with the 8% scratch grains, greens, meal worms, veggie and meat scraps.

I live in Ft Worth area, could the heat be why we went from 6 eggs a day (we have 6 hens), to 2-3 eggs per day???
