Weird Symptom: Excess Calcium?

Well, now I'm considering sour crop. Her crop was flat this morning, but I just went out to treat her vent gleet. When I picked her up, she regurgitated a bit of water. It's crazy hot here, so it might be because she drank a lot of water, but I felt her crop just to see. It felt rather bloated.

I watch her a lot, and I see she's eating and drinking fine. She's plenty active and lays an egg most days.

I'll check her crop first thing again tomorrow. Maybe I missed the problem.

Poor thing: impacted crop, worms, vent gleet, lice, and maybe sour crop, too.

Crop = 100% empty. I will just continue the Monistat until it's gone. Fingers crossed...

Ok, @Eggcessive

I have been treating her 2x daily with Monistat. It is day 10. I bathe her every other day. The redness is better, but still oozing.

She's been wormed, treated for lice (2 more rounds of that upcoming). She is eating and laying and active. But that butt is gross and stinky still!

I am wondering if it's something in her digestive tract. Should I try Medistatin or buy more Monistat and do another round?

I have not used either, but medistatin is nystatin, which is used even in humans for fungal infections. Do you think that you might be dealing with a bacterial infection, rather than fungal? Vets can test droppings for bacteria and fungus with a gram stain. I am no expert on vent gleet or sour crop.

I can go the vet route. I'm just afraid of the price tag! I ordered medistatin. But I'll call the vet tomorrow.

Thanks for humoring me. I just feel so bad for this hen. She's such a good natured little thing.

Did you ever determine what this was? I've got an older girl with stubborn vent gleet-like symptoms, powdery white around the vent, nasty smell, and am curious how other cases ended up.
