Weird Thing Growing on Hen?

Hi all,

Happy Father's Day. I was outside with my hens a few minutes ago when I noticed something strange on one of the girls, Vicky. It looks like a long, pipe-like fleshy piece of tissue growing between some of the feathers on her back. She seems perfectly fine and healthy, and is laying regularly. I've attached some pictures of Vicky and the strange skin so that you all could take a look. Is this something to be concerned about or not? Thanks in advance.

Have a nice day,
Kuritsa

Yes, it is in front of her tail. So I assume it's nothing to be concerned about?
Nothing to worry about. It's how birds keep their feathers shiny and waterproof. If you watch them during preening they will reach back to the gland to get some of that oil and than they apply it to their feathers. Repeat until everything is oiled and in place.
