I don't look at chickens as teddy bears.

Yeah, the spurs, toe nails, and beak are uniquely non-teddy bear, never mind the very strong flapping wings in the face... and then there is their unique ability to step in a pile of fresh droppings just before you pick them up for any reason...

a fertile egg has already started some cell division before being laid - the body heat of the hen will allow this to happen while moving through the reproductive tract, and then she, or a broody, may sit on it for awhile before being collected. So, yes, an embryo has already begun to form in a newly laid/fertile egg...it is just a small amount of development at that point. When you look at a fertile egg (cracked into a bowl or plate) there should be a bulls-eye in the yolk. Compare that to a non-fertile egg where there is only a white spot (no bullseye). The bullseye shows that some embryonic development has already occurred.

I thought it was X and Y chromosome? I thought I read storing them at 65 degrees got you all cockerels, but I'm not sure that was even in the article, better just to order them online lol
