Weird things only poultry people get.

I thought I would share this. I was going through the cackle hatchery rare assortment and I saw Easter Eggers on there . I know all of them are honestly really popular chickens, but why would they add Easter Eggers!! They are probably the most popular chicken there is besides red sex links. But I see a lot of hatcheries doing stuff like that and it’s kinda rude of them to confuse people who don’t know their chickens well like that. Imagine a person all excited because they had a “rare chicken” and then they find out it’s not rare at all.:barnie

Apparently if you store your fertile hatching eggs at 40 degrees (IDK how long) all the male embryos will die out. Tempted to breed some sex-links now...
I recently did this after putting down our svart hona cock (he was attacked by a dog and survived but was very scared and attacked constantly). I collected for 12 days, stored in my 45c cheese cave, and turned regularly. The 14 eggs were a crap shoot, some were very porous. Varying days were non fertile, I've had several quitters; but I'm excited to see what the remaining 7 do. Tomorrow is 21!

That doesn't work.
The embryo gender isn't determined until some time into incubation.
Plus how can you kill an embryo that isn't there yet?

Cockerels are the best. Is there any way to only get roos? :D

How you don’t hug every chicken you see.
I don't have that many arms and I can't catch them.
The only time I can pick up a bird is when they go to roost at dusk.
Out of over 30 breeds of chickens, Jersey Giants were the only ones that would allow me to pick them up in the field.

I don't look at chickens as teddy bears.

Well you see, when you have eight arms like me it’s pretty easy to snatch up one of the birds. I do the same thing with my dog, and he is the only one who ever fights me.

I don't look at people as teddy bears. But often politeness makes me hug them when they initiate it.
I think of it as I'd rather hug a chicken than a person.

My chickens beg me for hugs.
Yesterday one of them kept jumping into my arms as I walked around the pen.
I mean literally, I was standing up and she was flying into my arms for cuddles. Once they get the idea they can't lose it.

They can be farm animals, but they also do brilliantly as pets. It's interesting how different people think on this subject.

I think if they are okay with being my emotional support chickens I let them be my emotional support chickens. They aren’t bears, they are teddy chickens.
