Weird things only poultry people get.

To look fancy, and also scream at you at 4 am XD
I occasionally stay up until dawn or so -- I get sucked into reading and writing -- and hearing my roosters crow at four in the morning kind of reminds me that, yes, the sky is beginning to lighten, and, yes, I was an idiot again.
It's usually Lefty. The lad doesn't much like cuddles, but he's the most handsome lady-killer that I have in my flock.

I probably have too many, but I love all my boys. They are all very friendly and protective of their hens. I get why some people don’t enjoy them, but to hate them altogether because of the usual anti rooster nonsense seems silly
I love roosters, and all this anti rooster propaganda just makes me sad. So many cockerels are killed every year by big hatcheries for no reason, besides the stigma they seem to have in the chicken community.

I love roosters! Lefty, Zapraska, Kirby, Simnel, and Eclipse are all so beautiful.
The latter three are still cockerels from this spring, so their crows are a bit... forced.
Kirby and Simnel sound like squeaky toys, and Eclipse -- my only standard-sized rooster -- sounds like a foghorn.

I love hearing all the roosters sound off in the morning! I only have bantams so they aren’t super deep but they try lol....every once in a while you can even hear the babies try their hand at it too.
"Skqee-eek!"
I love it when a rooster crows and ends up putting so much effort and breath into it that you can hear him inhale.
"Cra-aa-aah-aaahh, hweeeeeee."
It's hysterical.

There is some stigma going on, but I also think that in some cases, it is literally that much of the current population of chicken owners are people who live in suburban or urban environments, and either:
A) Are legally prevented by law to have a rooster
B) The noise restrictions in their area prevent them from having a rooster
C) They are not allowed to have more than 4 or 5 chickens at a time, so can't have roosters because of the ratio
D) They do not have enough space/a good location with the proper amount of space to have enough hens per rooster
E) Have jerk neighbors that prevent them from having a rooster
F) Have family members that prevent them from having a rooster
G) Some of the above
H) All of the above
Because most people are not allowed to have roosters because of aforementioned reasons, hatcheries do not see a very high demand for them. The people that can and want roosters usually have plenty from hatching their own eggs, so they don't need to order and from a hatchery unless they are looking for a specific breed.
Because hatcheries cannot control how many cockerels they hatch, it's no surprise to me that they often have extras that they have to sadly dispose of. I won't say that I agree with the inhumane ways some hatcheries deal with them, but they have to do something. Rooster stigma is only part of the problem.

My cockerel just started growing while I was on vacation ( very, VERY disappointing), and I haven’t been back long enough to hear him crow. It makes me sad, but I know I will hear it soon.

I imagine his crow sounds something like this though:

JjshekKbhJhHjjJjHGEKWBDJWIJWJWIWIIWJ-a-doodle-doo
I like to imagine that the cockerel's crow is really them saying, "A-coughdrop-pleeease!"

I like to think it’s just them saying ‘ These are my girls, okay?’ To the world. Apparently my cockerel has a growing match with a neighbor’s, and I imagine it went something like this.

‘ MY GIRLS’
‘ OKAY, THESE ONES ARE MINE THOUGH.’
‘ OKAY.’
‘ OKAY.’
‘ CAN I HAVE YOURS TOO??’
