I have a friend who’s kids got POL brown layer pullets through the local feed store (you know the kind I mean, the ones that come to you with one foot in the grave already and lay as many eggs as possible during their pullet year and then croak out) and was convinced they were “purebred RIR” and then got super confused when I said the word “pullet” while we were talking about the birds. Also thought his newest birds were past peak production really quickly because they either slowed down or stopped laying eggs and lost feathers. (They actually culled some perfectly fine birds before they realized they were molting....)
with the rooster thing too, on the other end of the spectrum you get the people that figure since you have birds, that must mean you automatically have fertile eggs too, regardless if you have a roo or not.
