Yeah silkies have the blue earlobes but lay creamy white, I think.

They lay light tan, cream and white. Would be awesome if they laid the bright turquoise of their earlobes though, wouldn’t it?

It's not scientific. It's like saying long haired dogs are prettier. A lot are, but not all of them.



There are plenty of examples of where it doesn't work. CCLB for starters.

Every time I come on the Forum I learn a new way that I am really woefully ignorant of all things chicken! I didn't even know that chickens HAD earlobes.

Our hairdresser who was from the country said to a co-worker..."If you want hens to lay eggs, you have to get a rooster."

Once a little girl told me that she hates my chickens eggs and only liked store bought eggs

I have a friend who is in his late 60's and he will only eat Eggland's Best eggs. He doesn't trust any other brand. Hmmm.

I’ve been told free ranging is only when you have your chickens out in the fields fending for themselves. If you have a coop or any kind of yard it’s not free ranging.

My response: “we call that ‘predator buffet’; I don’t recommend it.”

I have had people tell me they are allergic to brown eggs. I do have white eggs and brown eggs. I used to separate them but not in a long time.

Some pretty funny stories.

I hadn't had chickens for forever and got back in them. A guy at work asked why. I told him the benefits. Eggs. Pets you can eat. Fertilizer for garden. Waste food disposers. Etc
He asked how many I had.
8 hens
He called me a dumb a$$ that I wouldn't get any eggs in front of 20 other people.
I asked why he thought that.
He says well you don't have a rooster.
I asked him if his wife needed him around to ovulate?
Blank stare wrapping his head around the concept.
Several chuckles from guys and a couple comments pointing out who was the real dumb a$$. Lol

I hear that a lot or put "you need a rooster for the hens to lay eggs" @B-Goock I like your response to that fellow. We have a farm swap twice a month at our local TSC, and a lot of people come through looking out of curiosity and some do ask a lot of silly questions including that one, but I guess that's how we all learn something.
