Weird wild duckling

Pics
As long as I can distinguish him from the other ducks, I will keep posting updates. But, it's extremely hard as several ducks now look like him.

I agree, I think he follows the gadwalls because he's more their size and he grew up around them. Though some of the gadwalls swim away when he approaches, I think they don't consider him a threat or competition.

Look forward to following along

I didn't see him today or any gadwalls. But, I think he's flying around with his brothers and I saw three ducks, two big and a smaller one, out flying around the lake. Young drakes seem to like to do that once they get their wings. I once saw Ducky fly halfway to my house one time.

Showing off for the ladies eh?

Yeah, usually that's why they do it-to show how strong they are. I think, in Trouble's case, he doesn't want to be by himself.

By the way, Ducky, I think, is still around with the same female. He got very aggressive when he was younger, but has mellowed out.

That's sweet. so breeding season is in Spring will they choose a mate then?

He might. A lot of young drakes won't get to mate because of too much competition or they're less aggressive or desirable to the ladies. With Trouble being so small and scraggly, he may not find a mate, at first. A lot of females don't breed their first year, either.
