Yup! Further north you need either a generator or a fireplace during winter. Without electricity even a gas-heating system won't work.
That reminds me when i dumped a pile of dry leaves on the ducks-platform. This year it is freezing cold here with the leaves still on the trees.

Yup we had 6" of snow with leaves on top because the trees weren't done dropping. My chickens scratched all the bedding out, and I don't believe mine go in it. I used it when they were babies. I just raked up all the leaves in my run and put down pine nuggets with straw on top, the leaves were smelling!
