Both of those things sounds like something my Polish would do. Speaking of Polish, I can confirm that they are the weirdest breed to exist ever. Mine chase dogs (luckily they do not care), chase me when I am wearing shoes instead of boots (I am convinced that is all they can see of you with their crest blocking their vision, LOL), and they act like they are paralyzed when something scares them really bad. And there are so many other things but it would take a while to list them! One of mine jumped 10-15 feet just to slam chest first into a stone ledge (it is a sitting area so bench height) trying to get with everyone else.
Another time this same bird ran onto my patio when it was perfectly dry and slid for a foot or two then face planted.
We call it the Sexy Chicken Dance. My rooster doesn’t do this anymore, but when I first introduced him to the flock, he always did this silly little dance before he tried to mate the hens. He hardly ever got one then, because he spent so much time running in circles and flapping his wings.
I have a pair of Plymouth Barred Rocks, who roost on the antenna. You’ll look at the roof in the late hours of the evening, and what’s that about 20 feet up the scaffolding? Chickens. It’s chickens. One time we were working on the roof, and one of my Australorps climbed all the way up the extension ladder to see what we were doing.View attachment 3893614
All fun and games, till the Rhode Island Reds start eating the broiler alive…………My chickens like to steal chicken nuggets out of my kids hands. The only food they have ever stolen from them. When I was gone for a day and my mother was watching my kids I told her “if you eat at the picnic table and the boys have nuggets watch the chickens they will steal them”. When I got back she said “I thought you were making a joke. Those chickens tried to steal the chicken nuggets!”.![]()
I have a bunch of roosters and they will all start crowing and when it starts getting on the biggest rooster’s nerves he will walk out of the coop and crow so loud I think he’s telling the others to shut up because they all stop after he crows
