Well, I finally broke down and sent in some chest feathers to determine the gender of Black Hood. It's a girl! It only took almost a year to figure it out. 
I'm thoroughly surprised, since she's been chased by our rooster more frequently the last few weeks. I was almost sure she was a cockerel. Still no eggs, but maybe by her first birthday, haha!
Still not sure if she's really an orpington or not, but at least I know her gender for sure.
