Excellent post!I have read (but off the top of my head I can't quote the source) that resistance takes years to prove... MDV is kind of like the chicken pox virus that can stay dormant forever until, whalah! Shingles!!
Before the MDV vaccine, there was a very concerted effort in the poultry industry to create resistant birds - I'm trying to remember the exact problems they ran into, but I know that one was birds that were more susceptible to other viruses, and the other has to do with similar chromosomal make-up creating weakness (inbreeding issues).
All that said, I know that folks are definitely working; breeding their seemingly resistant birds. The problem is (and I'm going to sound like a real downer here -sorry) Marek's can strike at any age (even though under 25 weeks is it's prime time), so knowing if your birds are truly resistant or just carrying dormant virus is a toughie.
Sigh.
A tonsil tickler, for sure (and not from the mouth downwards)
What? That's nuttin. I could top that w/o even unfolding the other half.Whoa!!![]()
Thanks! I just wish I could remember where I read things, so I could quote sources!Excellent post!

Nothing like showing a bit of spunkSo since the ko shamo pullet has been healing up, I decided to try a gentle reintroduction of her and the cockerel. I let them both out to 'free range' in the garage. NOPE. She is a scrapper. Went at him immediately, and he went right back at her. Like a full on rooster fight. Had to split them up pretty quick. Now they're in two pens adjacent to each other, and they are posturing through the wire like two roosters that want to fight. I know they're a game breed but wow.
