What a night... ya'll ain't gonna believe this chit...
Late last night, we noticed some of the breeder flock of Calls was out of their pen... I've been free ranging them during the day with the rest, but putting them back up in their pen at night... this was after they had been put up... rounded them up and as I was doing the nose count, noticed that 1 was missing... my Snowy drake... that pair is super bonded and are never far from each other, so I knew something had happened... searched around and no luck... figured an owl had gotten him... took his girl inside with me, poor duck was traumatized so she stayed with me all night on towels... only dozed off and on but got woke up early by little ones yelling for water... refilling water at the sink and see a duck running up and down the fence in one of the chicken pens... hopes high, I go out to round him up... nope, it's one of my greys and her sister is in another pen freaked out too... d**n thing must have come back, couldn't figure out why since it already got its dinner... as I was putting up the 2nd grey, I heard a drake calling... from the opposite direction of the flock... I look and can't find him... then he comes into view... running down the side of the road coming home! First time ever, my drake got away from a predator and found his way home! Has at least one small wound on his right side, but will do a full check a little later... right now him and his happy mate are sitting quietly in a carrier together...
Needless to say, everyone will be moved to the main pen today, lol... close calls like that are few and far between...
