Mottled BBS bantam cochinsHatching them for the same friend I'm doing the pheasants for. She's gonna let me keep some chicks if the hatch goes well.
Dh got the larger water wheel made. Hes actually shifting it back from the flume and extending the flume to channel the water directly into the buckets. The pic shows it moved...

Guys, how long after a hatch has set for 24 hours before you give up?
I assisted 2 chicks and saved them both!! Thank you mountain girl and WV. But...how long after the beginning hatching time of 24 hours before you think there is no hope for the rest?
The pic I’m going to show you is the chick I assisted before and after! She is strong and so is my other assisted hatch chick, but I know it’s my lack of knowledge somewhere that’s messing up my hatches! Lol not lol! I cannot believe how easy it was to assist, and I’m damn glad I did!
What do u guys think? When to assist or pull the plug on the hatch?
But these were individual chicks of course. Tonight right now has been about 24 hours since yesterday eve. Pics to follow..!
In that case, i assist...But if it’s pipped but seems really worn out then what? I’ve been such a nervous wreck you would think I was expecting my first grandchild which I better not be yet! Lol
We hope to use it to generate power..I hope the post office wasn't too hard on them.
Cool lookin egg! Congrats to charity!
Awesome! Do you use it to generate power, or just for the water? Or what?
A hatch will usually wrap up within 48 hours from the first hatch to the last. Not first pip, but first actual hatch.
I'm wondering if maybe you ran humidity too high thru the first 18 days?
And glad you got a baby of Eve's. That's sweet.![]()
I think you did too!Ok..after today I think I made a good choice on the assisted chicks that had been pipped for almost over 24 hours....so if the move to slows way down. Way down right? Sorry I’m soooo excited and so nervous! I’ll snap a pic of what has survived so far.
My precious little darlings!
So I finally got the 1202 cabinet cleaned up and left it running all day today. Kept perfect temp all day. After I understood how to set the wafer, it's awesome!
Going to try to clean up one of the big ones tomorrow and see how they do. And try to find a place to put one, then maybe list the others for sale. I just haven't decided which one(s) to keep![]()
We hope to use it to generate power..![]()
I enjoyed my afternoon....I like driving through the woods ... And getting stuck to me is just a challenge......I was totally calm and cool.I got
Thanks for clearing the whole Neosporin issue up. And thank you @casportpony too!
No, not good or fun...
Had a great day. Went up to the Mennonite community and got my chicken wire so I can now separate the barn into 4 large coops under one roof with individual runs!
Also got several loaves of bread, cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls and raw cows milk to make some butter and butter milk..
Also my friend gave me a little giant incubator with an egg turner..![]()
