Ima end up making a fb farm page before too much longer. its a point of pride for DH he wants to see our name and birds plastered across it with the best ability to make sales in his familys presence. Do you use a fb group for that or do u have a fb pg ive somehow missed? Im part of a few groups but i havent tried posting anything. Nothings been for sale yet, but DH is itching to see some return. Im collecting my first set of BLRW eggs and i think my Hona will start layn anyday now, shes dug herself a nice nest. The quail are 11 days from 6 wks and thats gonna be proccessing Day cuz i want the cage space for the eggs ill be setting plus who knows what else could happen spring is here.View attachment 1701055
Well look at you with your fancy Rose and all..... If take a pic of my flowers too.... But they are all covered in the feet of white stuff....

Now this is going to seem very strange, probably completely unreasonable and definitely antisocial to all you smart phone interweb chat warriors but I don't have a phone; not even one of those old fashioned ones that just allows you to talk to the person at the other end of the wire.:p
I used to have a couple. When I got on the plane to come out here I took out the SIM cards, placed the phones on the floor and jumped up and down on them before tossing them in the trash.:)
Along with the phones went my credit card; it was on fire anyway, my crappy National Health false teeth, my watch which had an alarm on and the memories of a lot of people that seemed terribly important at the time but with hindsight just stressed me out.
I came here to go a bit feral. It's only been the past few months that I've had an Internet connection in my house and look where that's got me.;)
Sounds like my choice of lifestyle if I could talk the DH into it. As for phone, this is no exageration, literally the only time it rings is some stupid robo call or a dr office confirming an appointment. We use it to make a call maybe once or twice a week. We've had tracfones for years tho no one has the numbers. We just have them because we do a lot rural driving and take them along "just in case". Oh, and DH now uses his to call home before he leaves town to check if I need him to bring anything home. I now have to call him when I go to town because he's turned into a worry wart since my last health scare. He still has no clue how to even do email and could care less what the heck FB is. Only reason I have an account is it's the kids' preferred way of keeping in touch with us, and each other. Otherwise, if we got hit by the "big one" and something took out the power grid we'd barely notice (tho I must admit I do keep a crank radio and a cell phone in a Faraday bag. Keep meaning to put a Ham radio in there but haven't come across a cheap one at a flea market yet. May need to settle for a CB instead).
ETA: Oh, and since I have my library pretty much established, I have found doing any information research is just easier online than driving to town to the library, having them order the book I need they most likely don't have, waiting for it to come in driving back to town to pick it up........ pretty much the same when it comes to using Amazon for grocery items we just can't get up here without making a day trip. Again, nothing we could not survive without.

Nothing wrong with that.... None of my nieghbors have phones either... I'm the only internet house on the block.
I have a phone but barely make calls with it.
I don't own a computer though .... But half the time I don't know where my phone is..... Or you all would probably hear more from me.
I haven't got any cell service here so no point in carrying it when I'm out in the yard.

Perchie.... Is one per Ten acres considered dense?
Seems like a lot of people although it probably isn't. I have a hard time picturing that. I can go for miles and miles here with out seeing another person.
Although I'm guessing if I was to take total population of the U.P. and divide it by acreage I would be surprised what the results would be. Because most people live in town. I'm guessing out of town the population is measured in people per square mile.
Most people outside of town send live on at least forties..... Forty acre plots are the most common sold here....I wish I could find a nice 5 acre plot somewhere..... But they aren't a lot of small plots to be had..... Land here is still pretty cheap though. I paid $800 for my acre that is my yard. Hope some day to buy the next acre too..... But I'm sure I'll pay more than $800 for it.....
started getting too populated around here a few years ago because land was cheap so all the city folks started buying up the lake lots, then the just off the lake lots when gas was cheap and disposable income was up. Thankfully that came to screeching halt and now all those fancy "vacation/retirement houses they built are up for sale and nobody's buying. Guess they found out what it really means to live or even vacation up here once you take a good look at what's NOT here. ;)

I think this is where you and i are different. I care about people but dont expect anything back. I observe and comment. Especially when I dont know them.

I do get along better with animals than I do people but I am a half cup full kind of gal. I do know people on here and in person who would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. I am the same way.

Then again I never ran with Cliques or did social things.... Very rarely went to parties or Get togethers... I went dancing of course but In that case I met with a group of people at the clubs that I met at the clubs most of which I never learned their names.

deb
Yeah I find that an odd way if looking at things....I deeply care about people.
I try to help take care of people in my community...... But I know when people come from places other than here.... They comment about how friendly and helpful people are here......I know I will gladly go out of my way to help someone out even if I've never met them..... But admit that as soon as I go below that Mackinac bridge it's a whole different dog eat dog type world......

My son got me a cell phone in December. He and my brother insist on calling me on it. I never wanted one. I have a landline and that suits me. So far I had my son put some of my favorite songs on it. I don't use it to call anyone. I don't even know what "It's" phone number is. My brother was able to add it to his service acct. for $ 10. a month - I would have rather had the money toward groceries.

They want to be able to reach me at any time. Oh bother. I never take it with me. Kinda like my sister she has one, leaves it home all the time.
It's not a bad ideas to have an emergency phone..... Even if you rarely use it.... They care.

You know I don't think most things need to be in a farady bag...... Though it's a good idea if you can ..... If we get hit with a EMP or solar storm.... The danger is in anything plugged in...... It's the grid gets a big pulse anything plugged in could burn right up..... Alot of other stuff could survive depending on how close the pulse is...... If we get a Carrington event sized incident I think it would be crushing..... But I'd bet many older electric devices would survive.... Especially if they are inside a metal building.......

The quail are pretty incredible they stand at over a lb each, males and females alike. I think i have 25 males to 37 hens if ud believe that! Went up 83 birds in 4 months
Nice.. are you going to process them? If so, at what age do you do it?
Vignette this week:

A Moment of time

As usual I was sneaking time out for myself. My routine in the morning is to care for my grandmother. Fixing her breakfast and making sure the TV is on the correct channel. Then making sure her pills are in a row on her tray. She is after all 102 years old.

After Grandma is settled and I find out if she wants Coffee, I am free to run down to the coffee shop and grab a Decaf for grandma, a cold brew and a fruit and granola bowl for my breakfast. Then I park in the parking lot and people watch as I eat.

While I was placing and waiting for my order I noticed a homeless man wearing Two back packs and carrying another. He fished in the Garbage for a bit then disappeared. His clothes were red or maroon with a well defined patina of sleeping on the ground.

I parked and another car parked in the same row. Very nice car white with a grey interior.. His clothes were grey sweat pants and a whte shirt Very clean. His hair was also grey, the kind of grey Asian men have Very salt and pepper. He had the look of a man who was strong of convictions.

Gray man went into the barber shop, looking for someone. He came out and was about to get in his car when Maroon man came up and spoke to him. Gray man had the look of someone put in an awkward position but he finally started to fish in his pockets. Then he stopped. And looked at Maroon man.

"Are you going to buy alcohol with this?" I couldn't hear the reply.

"I will buy you a cup of coffee"

They both headed to the coffee shop. Gray man returned a moment later. He said to me "He changed his mind, I don't want to see him get alcohol" I smiled and nodded. Gray man shruged obviously relived and went to his car.

I finished my bowl and looked in my review mirror to see if Maroon man was still around. Yep He was over under the over hang by the liquor store talking to himself.
I pulled the car around and came to a spot next to him. And gestured to him to come over. He field dressed his cigarette and put it in his pocket, and Came over.

I said, "How are you doing?"

"fine trying to get out of the rain for a while" His features were sun worn and very deeply grained. Not as old as he appeared probably in his early fifties. He didn't smell of smoke either Or old Alcohol... or even dirt for that matter.

"How long have you been on the street?"

"Not long," and he elaborated " I have two houses you know I go home quite often" Deep voice and no real accent. He was a worker at one time I suspect,

I smiled and said " You take care" and I handed him a twenty. He didn't even look at it he looked at me and said "Thank you" and made it disappear into one of his pockets.

I left soon after. When I used to work at a gas station I saw and spoke with the homeless Quite often. They are just simply people. Mental health, Drugs, Alcahol, you name it they are just surviving.

But isn't that what we all do? Survive with the tools that we have?

deb
Yep, All we can do is try to survive.. I just have to figure out which tools will work best for me.

Sometimes I wish I could do the same, but I know I wouldn't be able to not be with my family, they are what keep me here... :) (they are also what drives me to want run sometimes.:th)
I come to the Pond to escape and be in the "company" of friends.. and Ive made some great ones here! :love

Good morning Pond Life :frow
We have storms moving in today.. and why not, it IS grocery day after all..
