Oh my goodness .... thanks for the Confidence... but I am NOT a sparky. have a contractor lined up back when I had to have my power pole redone. This company is a Ma and Pa owned electrical contractor taken over from their Ma and Pa... Been around seen that done that...

When I asked if they could do it within code but with out having to get permitts... They said Not a problem at all. Quote price was decent within what I would expect for a mid priced quote.... Not Cheap Not outrageous. They did my power pole... snapped off bout two feet into the ground... Old age.

When He came and did the estimate for me he asked me if I was running a house of the power drop from the main line... I said Yes Why? Your power service line is too small it needs to be up a couple of gauges. I asked him how much that would cost... and it only added a couple hundred more to the initial cost. He said often times people get a permitt for a well and service for a well then later on hook up a whole house to it. Not safe. He also did a quick inspection of the main underground line to the house which was more than enough.

I know enough about power to rewire a light switch and When to keep my mitts out of there. and that comes when Breaker boxes are involved.... and searching out where the short is in the wall.

The whole house is a Cluster Cluck I told him that... Breaker box in the laundry room handles most of the exterior and all of the new interior rooms. The breaker box in the utility room runs .... Refrigerator and kitchen? and one outlet in my bedroom :idunno. Then Something runs the green house room.... Cant figure it out by fliping light switches.... Some things stay on when all the breakers are off... That is scary. I finally found out that a single light swithc ran that thing...

First thing he did was check my ground... and He said your house is NOT grounded Except by the power pole which is 1000 feet away... Then he suggested with a grin that putting in a ground post would be a good idea..... :th Possibly that one right there? He pointed to the ground post I had put in for a future hot wire fence... OH double Thudd :th:th He tested it was very well grounded.... Yay.

His estimate also included an up graded Breaker box... One with modern breakers not something that had been pulled out of a Salvage yard.

So Lots of work to be done when I move back.

deb

Sounds about like this house and my propertys elec. The elec wasnt really affected in the flooding but it was so dangerous before the flood that id turn it off at the box if i was leaving for more than a few hrs. I once hired an elec to come investigate the place. the rodents infested in it when i got it had knocked loose wires in abunch of places at joint connections and chewed some of the wire. it also wasnt grounded and some things would hold power n stay on when the breakers were turned off, yikes indeed! plus the power just flat didnt work at all along the front wall and in two of the three bedrooms. Anyway Im glad to hear you know your limits and have a good contractor cuz yes thats exactly The limit leave the box alone :lau

Oooh what kind of jewelry... I did Lost wax a very long time ago when I was in my twenties. But never had equipment of my own.

deb

I made beaded jewelry for about 15 years, i had around 12 boxes of dividers w beads of all types and sizes when the flood hit. When i was a teen i would set up tables at the bowling alley i practically lived at and at the flea market on wkends. In my 20s i still made alot of it but didn't set up shop ended up giving it to a friend for her etsy store she sold most of it 3-9$. not nearly as nice as yours! Made just enough to recoup my investment.

:tongue (Actually it gives me hope to see that there is nice weather out there somewhere. Maybe it will find its way here eventually... Keep taunting me with your nice weather reports, and you may just find me on your doorstep one day!)

Oh more rose pics? Those i have  i dont tell yall about my temps anymore cuz its not cold no more, and i dont wanna gloat(too much:p) im ready to sweat out the summer tho. Weve even had a day in the 90s already this year.

Ok, don't kill the messenger, but Spring has sprung. We are having a crazy butterfly explosion this year. I've never seem anything like it, maybe because of the excessive rain we've had his year. I must've killed dozens of them the last few days just driving down the street. I swear there have been hundreds of them that have flown thru my yard today. It looks like they're hatching out of a giant tree in my neighbors yard & flying out in groups of about six followed by another group & another & another... They're tiny & fast & I'm frustrated that I cant get a picture of them. Its crazy!!! They're all flying north & I wonder if Kathy & Orr will eventually see them pass thru.

I think this is where you and i are different. I care about people but dont expect anything back. I observe and comment. Especially when I dont know them.

I do get along better with animals than I do people but I am a half cup full kind of gal. I do know people on here and in person who would give you the shirt off their back if you needed it. I am the same way.

Then again I never ran with Cliques or did social things.... Very rarely went to parties or Get togethers... I went dancing of course but In that case I met with a group of people at the clubs that I met at the clubs most of which I never learned their names.

I made a lot of acquaintances/friends back in the UK, mostly through my work. I'm not much of a party person and of course I don't drink which doesn't help. mention you don't drink to most of the crew I used to know and you get looked at like you've suddenly developed a really nasty rash. I do still have proper friends in the UK but many of them have gone a similar route to me and for some that has meant their financial situation just doesn't allow for travel, so I don't get to see them much.
I still do that really old fashioned thing with the ink and a piece of paper.:p and keep in touch that way.
There are many good people here but as you can imagine, even if your grasp of another language is good, your memories and experiences are in your native tongue and are relevant to the culture you were brought up in. This does rather limit the converstaion.
My Catalan is good enough to get me by but given all the animals up here speak English now (they picked it up really quickly;)) and I don't leave the farm much I don't get to practice and communication improvement is slow and often reliant on a drawn picture or hand signals.

Hate the spouse...

Ticked... clearly I am ticked

Probably just the snow... and that the blasted kids are sick... kid 3 (current eldest child at home) is running a fever and having to shovel a path to the in-law's door. Why? Because my arthritis is too flared up for me to shovel... in-laws are out of town ... coming back today... and spouse who has also been out of town tells me TODAY that we were in charge of in-law snow removal.

I understand your feeling about phones and all..... But I love my phone.
Like I said I haven't had a lap top in forever.... But without my phone it's pretty lonely around here. In the summer my neighbors go to camp in the only one around most of the time.... So it's my tether to the outside world.
My next nieghbor to the South is over 10 miles away....... Although I'm only a mile from little lake to the north. When we first moved here before there was any internet it was pretty lonely.....
But I don't sit on my phone all the time either so it's not like it's really a distraction.
That's why I disappear for a day or two.... Cuz I don't hover over my phone screen
I should have a mobile phone really for emergencies but the signal up here isn't dependable.

Perchie.... Is one per Ten acres considered dense?
Seems like a lot of people although it probably isn't. I have a hard time picturing that. I can go for miles and miles here with out seeing another person.
Although I'm guessing if I was to take total population of the U.P. and divide it by acreage I would be surprised what the results would be. Because most people live in town. I'm guessing out of town the population is measured in people per square mile.
Most people outside of town send live on at least forties..... Forty acre plots are the most common sold here....I wish I could find a nice 5 acre plot somewhere..... But they aren't a lot of small plots to be had..... Land here is still pretty cheap though. I paid $800 for my acre that is my yard. Hope some day to buy the next acre too..... But I'm sure I'll pay more than $800 for it.....

Here most people have small plots... like an acre or 10... but there is so much federal land and native land... huge areas... keeps the density down.

not only that severe storm warning due to "A strong cold front moving in from Alaskan"' oops I mean Alaska. So of course they tacked on possible tornado.

Nah... if a tornado is coming too, can't be from me.

You know I've been thinking about putting gutters up.... But how would I keep them from getting knocked down....I bet I could design some that I could easily take off for the winter.... Problem is would I have time to take them off?

There is a way to do it.... people up here have them, don't take them down, and the snow slides off without breaking them off.... not sure how though.

This seasons first looky-loo walked past 2 no trespassing, private property signs yesterday to stand in my driveway. Unfortunately she wont be the last. I hate to be 'that guy' but humans make me hate this time of year. The Spring breakers will descend any minute, followed by an endless stream of tourists. The older I get, the less tolerant of it I am.

 Sorry, but I'm positive the kids health is more important than your horrible inlaws. Tell them 'bite me' if they don't like it. :rant

I've been fake drinking for years. First thing you do at any party is grab a cup & never set it down. At a bar get a soda or a juice in a short glass with a lime in it. I swear it works.
