Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

How many have you got?
As of noon today, 16. One rooster and 15 hens. When I woke up this morning, I had 4 roosters and 15 hens living in one coop - all 11 months old - and 1 rooster and 5 hens living in another coop. Those were either 4 or 6 years old. I don't remember. They were my mom's. She got them from me before one of our trips to Alaska, but I don't remember which one. Anyway, the 3 extra males from my main coop, and all of my mom's chickens are being processed today. I am canning the breast meat and legs, and keeping the rest of the carcass from the 3 roosters for making bone broth. The meat is in the fridge right now, waiting for me to get jars and canner ready to go. Just needed to take a short break.

Now I know more about how to cook them the next one I eat may taste better.
A recipe for bone broth would be appreciated if you can find the time.
I am the most reluctant cook. Despite this I cook twice a day but I end up doing really simple stuff.
A bit more on the adventurous side would do me good and make better use of the bones.

I make mine in the Instant Pot, but it can be done in a crock pot or on the stove, just as easily. Here is the recipe I use. After the broth is made, I pressure can it. I sure miss it when I run out!

first Cayuga egg of 2019 :wee:woot

Well, had the first 'egg broken in pocket' casualty of the year. Hopefully the first and only time I do that this year, lol.
Way ahead of you in that department. :p
Calls have been laying like crazy. You'd think I'd learn to carry out a basket but nope. In the pockets they go.
Then I forget about them as I go about my chores until I hear a CRACK.
Then the other day I had a hole in my jacket pocket I was unaware of and two eggs fell out on the concrete floor of our out building SPLAT.

I think it was a Call egg that I broke too, lol. I can't tell though because it seems large for a Call egg. But the only other hen I have in there that's not a Call is a pekin, and it seems too small to be hers.
