Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Mornin' pond.

Well, we finally have a bit of rain and a weather pattern that looks like it might bring some more in the days to come. I doubt it'll have any impact on the drought, although the mountains picked up some more snow.

Hope all is well where you are!
Rain is good for you...

Lick a frog and you will get more rain. ;)

Last time we had geese I let them free range... and they loved to siesta on the front walk to the house.

I PROMISED that if i got them again i would use the electric net.

but... it was a HUGE no... not a little no.

Sigh

And you listen?
:lau

I TRY to be good... total failure.... but I TRY

Yeah... that time of year.... I look at the HUGE DEEP snow berms and just go :tongue:smack

Really Now! Enough of that!!

I haven't even heard the first birds of spring ... just... :tongue

I LOVE goose meat!!!!

Spouse will not let me get them ever again!!!!

:hit
If we want goose meat, we shoot them in the fall during hunting season. I will not raise them here. I was traumatized as a child by “Sarge”, the gander on my great-aunt’s farm. She had to carry a broom with her, every time she left the house! She had bruises on her legs from that beast. Nope. Not gonna happen here.

I loved the old gander when I was growing up.

He liked me. I thought e was better than a dog.

The flock of geese we had that one year were good with my kids... we ate them all before they were a year old though....

We use the hatchet-and-stump method. (And by “we”, I mean DH.) He makes a “V” out of nails in the stump, puts the head between the nails, holds the feet in one hand and hatchet in the other. He whacks them while I’m catching the next one. If I ever find myself having to kill my birds, I think I’d try Al’s method. There seems to be less margin for error than trying cervical dislocation. I just don’t think I could do it right. Or at all.
I can’t remember. What’s Al’s method?

I am right there with you! I only use the broomstick method. The only time we use a hatchery is for a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner... and DH does it lol
Do you actually use a broomstick? I used rebar because it’s thinner & stronger. Also because the tiny woman in my favorite dispatch video used rebar on a giant rooster.
