Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

We have a shallow well with high iron and manganese levels.  Everything looks so much better since we put in the softener!

I don't know..... My neighbors all have water softeners..... But i think our water is Dam good. I don't get any stains..... Water taste great..... My neighbors water turms her hair orange though.....

Here it really depends on the depth of the well and the location.  Since we are close to the river, luckily our water isn't as hard as it is a few streets away.

Okay, I know going in that this is partly a knee-jerk response on my part (if anyone wants background, that'll need to be typed on the computer...) but get a filter for that manganese! Though if you're not getting stains or chunks, maybe I'm just being paranoid.

our iron content is so high it has wrecked our appliances, clogged out out drain and jammed up 4 sump pumps! We have to stay on it monthly to make sure all the pipes an such are clear.

Oh wow.  We just had black and orange stains in the dishwasher and we get the sulfur smell in the hot water.  Although I really resisted buying the system, I'm so glad we did.

PS:  Glad the OT went bad/good!  It hurt like heck when I started, but it really worked!

I know all about manganese toxicity, and our levels weren't that bad, but enough to stain. The softener takes care of almost all of it, and the iron (absolutely no staining since installed) and we have a 5stage RO unit for drinking water.

At this point, I'm not particularly worried.

Fair enough. I fully admit that I'm paranoid about manganese.

Pitiful, just pitiful.
