Are you processing or selling your culls?

I really need to build a couple of breeding pens, too. Still trying to figure out next year's plans and whether I'll stick with the AC or not. I've got 2 bigger ones and 2 smaller ones, so if size means anything, then I have 2 pair.

All the cockerels and turkeys that didn't make Breeders Cut go to the processor in the morning. I only plan to raise 25 turkeys for market next year based on this year's sales, so I am still keeping too many hens, but I need to keep enough to keep the two toms satisfied.

For the ACs, I only have two pair, so I will pad the pens with some other small chickens. I have one white rumpless Araucana, and a couple of Spitzhauben hens, and a couple from Ravyn that I don't know what they are but they are tiny. So I will probably build breeder pens that hold four small fowl. Design suggestions welcome.

Martin got into my coop. Killed a BSL hen, took a toe off my 8yr old hen, (??) murdered Tucson and Heather, and severely injured Chrissy.

I flushed the [insert word here] martin out from under its pallet hideout with boiling water and starting fluid, then ended it with a shovel.... Nothing and nobody messes with my babies and gets away with it.

My babies.... I'm in shock.... Still don't believe it really happened. It can't have. It must be a bad dream...

I feel terrible.

At least that martin won't attack chickens ever again.

I realize that.

Just wondering if anyone has noticed a gender difference in growth rates. They are 4 1/2 weeks now and no combs really popping yet. Of course, of my last 2 Orloffs, the male was the smaller one for the longest time, until he had a growth spurt and passed his hatch-mate up.

My younger pair is approximately the same size in juvenile plumage, but the male has a thicker comb base.

My older pair is in adult plumage with respectable hackle and saddle, but are very small birds. Male is just starting to get more comb development than the female.

Now that I have chickens I don't care when people judge me for having a mink coat!!!! If I ever get healthy Banty, I'll wear it out in loving memory of your babies and not feel one bit bad for those furry little suckers!!!!

Banty, I am so sorry for your babies. I am glad you got that predator, but sorry it was too late.
