Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

my plan is by next spring garden, everything will be grown in raised beds. I tried hay bale gardening. pretty much a failure, except for green beans. nothing else thrived.

peppers-nope
tomatoes-nope
squash-nope
cukes-nope

pretty disappointed with it. on the positive side, I do have lots of composted hay bales to put in the raised beds......lol

oh, let me share these.

hurry and put my chickens in here Pappadaddy!!

chickens and kids!!

boys hard at work, while I supervise from the shade. the real work was done on the first course of blocks, getting each one level, and level with each other. course had a little more to do, with trimming blocks to size. ya'll can see why I had to get in and start weeding the okra.......lol.

She is darling!

And looks so happy. You put a big smile on that little girls face. Good for you, and great job on the tractor.

The kid looks happy . I've tried raised beds and bales and stacked tires . I just plant in the dirt and till for the most part now . weeds took the pumpkin patch last year . Mulch has to be at least six inches deep to be effective. If I have the hay thick enough should keep the weeds down . I have plenty of old hay rolls that need to be used up . If there was money in weeds I'd be rich

Fixed it. lol.......

my problem, isn't the weeds from traditional gardening, it's the bermuda.......so far the things I have planted in the raised beds have done well. I dont' have any lack of good manure to put in them, between the goats, chickens, and rabbits, I can keep the soil in good shape.

my two squash planted in the greenhouse in January, did great in tires I use in there.

I think next year, my tiller will be used to start a stand of milo, and one of corn, to use as feed for animals.

Morning Berts your weekend sounded like mine . Decided to try using old hay rolls to put around the and under the running plants to help with weeds and maybe less tilling . weeded around the okra late in the evening yesterday . to hot for that mid day . changed shirts yesterday three times

Careful on those crutches Friday

Thanks. They seemed to work better when I lived where there were sidewalks and pavement :(

Back from our cruise and it was fantastic!  Can't wait to go back and do it all again!

But we came home Saturday evening to find out that the kids were leaving for Denver the next morning so Kendra can have emergency revision surgery.  I've posted a complete update on the Kids with Disabilities thread and would sure appreciate some prayers for our little one.
Hope everything goes well.
