Well there's over a billion of 'em, so chances are there's always some up to something at any given timeNot so gentle. Seems a few of the Indians are on the warpath.

Sounds like she's like most kids...can't believe how dumb their parents are while they're under their roof, or how smart they become when the kid becomes a parent themselves? No matter how big/old they get, WE are still Mom and Dad and feel the need to fix things. I don't think that ever goes away. And there are still times when they need that.
Our daughter was my buddy while growing up. She had far more interest in the dogs than our son and trained and attended field trials with me. Then puberty hit.I was the strict Dad who applied the rules and regulations. She hated me, and frankly I did not like her much. We survived (Princess assured me that we would) and put things back together. My SIL's father died suddenly, and daughter was the one holding things together. Princess had a new car so I parked way across the parking lot when we went to the funeral lunch. Daughter and family pulled into the lot, and she streaked across the lot and into my arms. We embraced, and she said, "Thanks, Dad, I just needed a little strength." My heart smiled - she still needed 'Dad'.

One house! How do you find time to fish, being the mayor, police chief, fire department, post office, and grocery store, plus part time mechanic?I live in a private dead end road.....a mile from the one house town of Little lake.... Yeah no ones coming here.
Hey! I've been wondering where you've beenHi everyone. So far behind again.Hope you all have been misbehaving as usual!
I've always wanted a jeep! Your the dirt person I've heard recommend it though. . I've always been told jeep stands for Just Empty Every Pocket lol.Not many farms here.... But my boys both worked in Marquette.... First for Shopko as night shift stockers.... Then at Menards.... My daughter didn't start till later....I didn't mind as it was easier with just her home.... But she's works at the Hardee's in Marquette since she started college.... She lives in Marquette.
But with the rules she can only work 28 hours a week..... When gas was higher it didn't even pay to drive back and forth with her Jeep.
I love Jeep Cherokees. I've own a bunch of them...I think they are the best vehicles ever built...... But they weren't know for good gas mileage.
You've not felt good a lot lately it seems like. . talke care of yourself girl! Thanks, dear!
Thanks, FB! What are you up to for your week of vacation?
Having depressed loved ones is almost as bad as having it yourself. Hang in thereI soooooo much want to see the eclipse.... But that's the weekend Mason comes up to spend the last part of summer.
My wife is actually looking forward to going to the fair with me this year.... Just us.
Almost like a date.....I hope she keeps going forward..... Clinical depression really sucks.
I think owls are so amazing! Loved them dearly. . until I got ducks. Now I love them from a distance. . I have some barn owls that come around here they are so neat. But they come out too early in the evening sometimes.thats not a duck or a goat or a piggie.... pretty though
Honestly, after mulling it over last night and then on my run this morning, I am kind of relieved to hop off that bus. Ironically, that was the very first breed I really wanted to work with. Now, not so much. The females do have very nice personalities (when they're not broody), but so far, I have not had a male I could turn my back on. (They're pretty yummy to cook up though!).I hatched 2 a few months ago. A black copper male, and a blue female. I'm still waiting for her to lay, but asked a friend if I should expect lighter colored egg from the blue female (lighter than black coppers, etc, since I knew his cuckoo's lay lighter than the BCMs) His theory is that all the beautiful dark pictures we see are in the very early stages of a hen's laying. They lighten up over time. Well... correction... they start light, then darken, then lighten back up.
He also says that only 1 in 10 is a keeper, and getting good males *and* good females from the same parents is almost impossible. Find a combination that gives you good males, and another pen with a different combination for good females.
Yea,... in other words, I'm not breeding them either. My couple will stay yard birds. Although I'm still dying to see her egg!
Do they have different colour standards for male and female? I am not familiar with Marans. He also says that only 1 in 10 is a keeper, and getting good males *and* good females from the same parents is almost impossible. With the Partridge variety of Chanteclers, some people paint it as the same deal, that you must do two pens or you will never get good birds colour wise. I personally won't do double mating with two entirely separate pens, because I believe it defeats the purpose of a reproducible bird that is production as well as show winning. Still, many of the birds today in the Chantecler world are pullet breeders, meaning the males will often have some red chest leakage or a few pencilled feathers.
Some say that, for example, putting a son of your best pencilled female over another good bird to get better pullets is the same thing. I don't think so, with that you're just working on one specific thing (pencilling) and not developing basically two separate lines of birds.
Most of this is due to the standard writers trying to see just how impossible they can make the goals, but for Chanteclers at least, it is possible to get good males and good females out of the same line. It just takes more work.
Wow, did I get off on a ramble there... Sorry.![]()
Whoops, I thought you were talking feather shade. More coffee, eh?Colors, i was talking eggs, and i don't know them well myself, but i think in some of the lighter colored varieties, lighter shades of eggs are acceptable. But don't quote me on that.
And I'm sure your point is valid on breeding pens, but i guess it all depends on your purpose. Show or selling to people wanting to show. If you are trying to make the best birds to sell, then maybe 2+ pens make sense. Breeding for yourself for showing may be a different story.
