Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

I'd go with option # 3. If they don't work out, keep them overwinter and then release them. They will never be Call duck tame. Heck, they won't very likely even be 'mallard tame'.

Edited to add that I hate pinioning right along with you.

I absolutely will never pinion, nor do I like clipping wings... but at least ducks molt 2x per year, so it doesn't last too long... I can understand pinioning something like quail when they're bred for meat and eggs, since the buggers are notorious for "popping up" and bashing their heads into cage tops... I couldn't do it though, just don't feel it is right to permanently take away their born abilities... but I have learned (the hard way) the prudence of clipping wings for safety reasons when necessary...

Oh, you know as well as I do that we both were just excited and drooling. I absolutely, positively do not blame you in the least! Its not your responsibility to educate me. I should have done my homework.

But guess what I have discovered? The picture of the teals came from a website, possibly the place she bought them (logo was cropped out), but I was kinda led to believe they were her pictures. I'm still searching for the other photo online somewhere....

I still feel guilty as all hell... :hmm can't help it, that's me... and it was a spectacularly crappy @$$ed weekend all around...

Well, that is BS... I was wondering about the pics myself, especially considering the one pic had a bunch of males and only a single female... why the heck can't people walk out and take a simple pic of their own?

I can't find that pic anywhere, so it "might" be hers. It was the teal pic that I found online. Also found it on her FB page, from September, so I think she hasn't had them for as long as I presumed. Again, my fault. And it really has no bearing on anything, just kinda weird to not say "here's a pic from their website" or something.

As far as pinioning, I did remember hearing that it should be done when young, and that it was permanent, but I didn't fully realize what was involved. I also understand clipping for safety. But if these do get loose, I want them fully capable of doing what they need to do.
The calls, on the other hand, if they would say, start to wander further from my house, I may need to consider it. They are the absolute best!

Nah, not your fault... she should've given full disclosure... and it isn't hard to say hey, here's a reference pic for now til I can get an actual one... and no shame in admitting getting something and changing your mind/deciding they aren't for you...
I dunno, just don't see how hard it is to be truthful about things...

Completely understand leaving them capable of doing what they need to... that's why when I do ever clip, I always do both wings... keeps them balanced and they retain control... many advocate only clipping one wing, that way they go in circles and are predictable... in my opinion, that is just for catching convenience... predictable to me means easier prey for a predator...
