Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

I'm sure he will do fine!

:clap I have at least 2 ducklings hatched under Malibu, with one zipping. She knocked one out of the nest, she has quite a mound built. I thought it was a dud, but I grabbed it and it was pipped and peeping. I put it back within her reach and she pulled it under her. :love

We planted onions around the perimeter last year. The deer/rabbits still ate the tomatoes and peppers. We didn't plant this year, and surprisingly I have 3 tomato plants growing. From last years seeds? Never had that happen before.

The ducks finally ran this bunny off. :gig

I NEED DUCKS! That's it! Wait until i tell hubby, he will be so thrilled!:lau

I found this chick this afternoon. What the hell is wrong with those girls? I've never had them attack chicks before.
So I pulled one hen that had hatched another chick that was ok, took all the eggs and chicks with her to a different broody box. Those other girls can sit on their feet. :barnie
I put some Neosporin on it. Hopefully it'll live.

Poor little thing :(

If you can get some stuff called Derma Clens to put on that wound, try it out :) It's really good stuff, been using it since a vet recommended it to me years ago.

Hi you!
I also have some chick killing cochins right now.
Nice saves! The beak looks clear enough, but I think the veins look well enough receded to open the membrane a little more, if you want. Avoid the veins the best you can. It kinda looks like the wing is covering the face??
It's probably safe to leave right there for a while too. I just like to have the chick's right eye visible, so the membrane doesn't get stuck to it, but that's just personal preference.
I removed a bit more of the membrane from around its face. I've had it dry to the eye before as well. I applied vaseline and put it back. I think it needs more time for sure. Just praying the crazy mama doesn't hurt it.

That is soo crazy! This is the first I've ever had it happen too. I have 3 other broodys who hatched chicks. All great mamas taking care of their babies. This girl sat the whole time and as soon as she laid eyes on them she started acting weird. Never seen anything like it. Just glad I noticed right away. Now she keeps getting off her eggs and letting them dry out. This baby is the last to hatch. Praying it makes it. Hope yours makes a quick recovery. It looks bad poor thing. Not sure what you could do for it other then the neosporin. I have found warm Epsom salt soaks help heal open wounds pretty quickly but that seems like a tough spot to soak.

These are the tall ones that should get big pom pom like flowers on top IF NOT EATEN BY VARMINT RABBITS! Might have to sit up with my shotgun and wait.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the newer, fancier marigolds are less pest repellent than the old fashioned ones--and even some of the old-look ones are, as well.

Tomorrow is the last day of school, and we're having a pajama party. Just like any other pajama day, I have to actually get dressed in "pajamas" instead of just rolling out of bed, because I cannot leave the house in what I sleep in...

Well now I have a definitely domestic rabbit loose with my chickens:

If I'm not mistaken, this is the exact same rabbit from last year. It belongs to the neighbor and was also loose in my yard last year all year and into the winter, and they were just going to leave it like that until my cousin posted something about on Facebook, at which point they finally came and caught it.

And yet here it is again. They must not have very secure hutches and must not care much about their rabbits.

I still haven't seen more than just the 2 hatched yesterday. She's been setting since the 1st one was laid (my screw-up), so they may be spread out over a few days. I have to assume they were all viable; she hasn't rejected any.

DW's big on Cherry tomatoes; likes to munch on them at work. We used to plant them, 'til we discovered that we were getting as many volunteers sprouting out of the compost pile as we were planting. A buddy of mine was doing the same with full-size tomatoes.

May just be one hen out of the lot. Just another reason that I hate 'co nesting' hens. It's difficult to identify the trouble maker.

Good morning Pond Scum. Well, I guess it's more Pond Skippers. Not much scum on the Pond lately. Not sure that's a good thing. :hmm
