Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

No power cut for us.... It is up around Alpine though....

Morning, Deb.
I hope you're still feeling pretty good.
Got a question: If I want an arc 4' H x 6' at the base, I need a shade less than 11' of wire, if I'm following you. Sound about right? Trying to modify a tractor for more headroom with a stock panel I discovered on the old kennel pad the other day.

Hey Deb???? You still have power? Did grandma's house make it thru the night? Watching the news and they're showing pics from the Alpine area. Just horrible. Prayers for all in the danger zones.

Humidity down this morning so I can finally get closer to finishing up the annual painting the outbuildings marathon. DH is already out watering. Day 19 here without any measurable rainfall. Nothing since the crazy flooding rain 20 days ago. Take that back. We got almost a whole 1/4" last week. Storms keep rolling thru but not leaving any moisture behind for us. With this record heat, everything beginning to get a little "crispy" but nothing like what you folks out west are dealing with. Just a hundred miles or so to both our north and south they keep getting washed out! Crazy. Oh well, at least we've had great haying weather in the potato flats. (Not so much for the taters tho.) Need a car wash? Go for a ride down a road next to a potato field. There's always at least one of those huge "water walkers" spraying water over the road as they make their pass.

My first of many experiences at Bass Pro was at the one in Gurney IL, just north of Chicago. I was like a kid in a candy store on Christmas morning. I'd never seen so many mounts in one place, & the aquarium floored me! Still does. 99% of my business today is via internet; cheaper to pay shipping than spend the time & gas to drive the 45-50 miles one way.
I'm beginning to shop online more and more. Our little close town has groceries, a hardware store, Dollar General and two pharmacies. There are a couple of lumberyards within 30 miles, but if you are buying in bulk, better to go to Menards - over an hour away in 3 different directions. Our "big town" shopping usually happens once a month or so, and which one we go to depends on what we're looking for.

You got that part right! Tough way of life, but a good way.
I grew up in a Mpls. suburb. From the time I was 6 or 7, I would come out to the farm and spend a week or two with my great aunt and uncle. Started dating my farmer when I was 15, got married and moved to the farm when I was 18. I wouldn't change a thing. I've always loved it out here.

I married DW a month after she finished h.s. We both grew up in small towns outside of D.C., but parts of my family had either been born into farming & left the farm or were currently farming; it was in my blood. It took 6 years, but I finally found a little acreage in the country that we could afford, and set the wheels in motion. First time I brought DW up here, she said "You expect me to move out here to the middle of nowhere; it's 7 miles to the nearest grocery store"! That was the beauty of it for me. Only 3.25 acres, and not large enough to make a living on, but 3.25 acres more than I ever figured I'd own. Today, 46 years later, I'd have to blast her off the place.

I'm in the same boat.... Our little town is a store with a post office and a Bar.
We have a small town about 10 miles away.... With a hardware store..... And a grocery store.
But most everything else is about hour drive.....

My granddaughter Claire with.... The little ducks

Precious! :love
Those ducks stay in all the time now?

Too tired to get up early and head out this morning, so we’re going around noon and fish till dark.

That’s awesome.
Never dreamed I’d want anything to do with anything close to farming.
