Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

I have to read backwards to catch up. I’m not sure how I got so far behind.

DD2 Frankie went with me to pickup Debs birds & Frankie managed to come home with an old, blind Silkie :lau She can’t be put with the rest of the flock & doesnt do well in large places. She’s been in my livingroom the last couple days. This weekends project is building her a little hut & run outside where she can chat with the other birds, but still stay safe.

It should be an interesting & different project from anything we’ve done before. We want to make her ‘hut’ like a run within a run. Small enough in her little area that she won’t feel overwhelmed, but big enough in her outer run that the kids can get in there with her. I have visions of the worlds smallest coop, with a flat of grass & mini picket fences, but knowing our skill set it might end up looking like a cardboard box with AstroTurf & popsicle sticks.

It was SO exciting to finally meet Deb & her son Dean. :weeI didn’t hug her like I threatened I would’ve because of the damn CV19, but that just means I’ll hug her twice next time. (Consider yourself warned Deb.:p:gig)

Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Selling chickens.

We stood there in the pen, to catch some up to sell. I said wow, are you sure those are 30 chickens? They don't look like that many to me...maybe 10.

My kids said THAT was why we have so many chickens, I can't count.

Have to teach them about chicken math huh

I just got my first chickens in about eight years.

a Creme Legbar, Black Laced Wyandott, And a Delaware Roo.

Thanks to @room onthebroom She and her husband brought them up from Vista. Big change in Temperature. here it was 105 degrees when we got them settled. The Cage is on the back patio and is in Full shade most of the day. They will stay here for at least two weeks before I bring them up to the house. Getting acclimatized.
The hens are two years old and the roo is about ten weeks old. you cant see it from the picture but he is taller than the girls by about four inches.

Roomies Husband built the perches and they came armed with everything from nest box to dust bath.

For what its worth Here close to the coast the temperatures are the same as up in the High Desert. A big difference in humidity though.

My son put cardboard down to protect their feet the concrete is Textured so it doesnt get slippery.

Oh and that roo still hasnt started crowing. but I see hackle feathers on his neck. Hes on the bottom of the pecking order for now. A good place for a young roo.
