Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Good Evening, Pond!
Today was hatch day for my broody. I bought a dozen eggs to put under her. By Saturday she had 5 eggs left. This evening she had two chicks and two I hatched eggs under her. I have not seen a third chick or I hatched egg. I’m hoping that since she’s a big, fluffy girl, there is a third chick hiding somewhere in all that fluff. Tomorrow I will remove the two unhatched eggs and take them out of the box they’re in. I put some chicken wire across the end of the coop so they have a 2’x8’ space for the chicks to get a little stronger and figure out food and water before she takes them out of the coop.

See I lost a few with my broody she is young giant cochin she kicked out two eggs
they where both clear I think maybe they sat to long maybe close to a week
she has bantum chicks my bud brought over the break her ... she is happy coo cooing to her peeps

In my experience this has happened when other hens have access to a setting hens nest.

Good morning Pond.
Yes, I should have found a way to block her off. The first week or so, there were no problems, so I didn’t worry about it. I hate moving them, even though I’ve done so many times without issue. But the last one I moved was a disaster. The hen had settled in an unprotected area, and had been there for a week or more. I set up a nice place for her, moved her at night, and when I went to check on her the next day, every single egg was smashed, and the hen was berserk. I don’t know if it was the move that set her offf, or if the building I put her in wasn’t as secure as I thought it was. After that, I had a different hen who was able to successfully set within the flock - I got spoiled by that one, I guess.
