Welcome to my pond - Swim, wade, or sit on the bank

Visitors are the ones NOT wearing the masks.
Here too. I’ve never been a fan of tourists, but I’m even less tolerant during a pandemic. Take your germs & your trash & your entitled attitude & go home.... or at least wear a mask & wash your hands. CA counts are soaring as I knew they would be.

At home I use Rice hulls or sand. Dont buy bermuda or orchard hay, only Alfalfa once I get goats again. But that will only be for enrichment since I cannot allow free ranging at all.

Am going to learn how to ferment feed as well. better nutrition all round. Goats love it too.

Mine get orchard grass only because the guinea pigs & bunnies need to eat it & I’m too allergic to the Timothy grass to have it in the house or car. We get big bags of it from the feed store so I figure I might as well use a little in the nesting boxes too.

Happy Sunday, Pond!
Spent the day in town after church. When they moved, DIL said she’d like us to come have Sunday dinner with them every Sunday possible, because she remembers Sunday afternoons with her grandparents and wants that for her kids. We will do what we can. Today DH and DS put up some fence to keep kids and new dog contained, and put a ceiling fan up in Grandson’s room.

In other news, I have another broody. I will be able to keep this one separated. She is an EE mix, so lighter than the last one, too. Getting eggs from a different source either this evening or tomorrow morning. Last batch, out of the 5 eggs that made it to hatch date, only two hatched. The other three were duds.

Not sure what is going on with my hatches... I can only guess nutritional.. :idunno

So I have started tossing nutritional yeast on their feed.

We let the bantams go broody, first clutch all went nasty (dead at various points of incubation) second set hatched ONE. Anyone want to bet on the sex? :lau

Then I incubated a set, mostly Spitz with some others.... Not a SINGLE Spitz egg hatched (out of 8 maybe???) None of the 4 Ameraucana hatched, 2 of the 5 antique Marans cross hatched, and 2 of the 3 Leghorn eggs hatched.

I sold ALL of the Leghorn females except for the (what I hoped were) the prettiest 2, 1 white and 1 dark brown.

The 2 chicks, both from the white girl... ONE IS A SINGLE COMB. :th

I know the dark brown RC Leghorn male I have over her is hetero..... but her comb is so beautiful.... I was sure she was homo for RC.

My mind... blown.

I have one last set of eggs in the incubator, all Leghorns, I think down to 7 good ones... and a week left to incubate.

I am thinking wait a month with the nutritional yeast... then a full on stupid and incubate one last set of as many Spitz as possible, with some of the Ameraucana tossed in too (blue Ameraucana x Leghorn)
