I now have a filling thru an expensive crown because of it :he

Not sure I'd opt for chemo again; one doesn't to be any more effective than the other, and the after-effects are a lot easier to deal with. We'll see....

yep, aren't the side effects so much fun! Thing with CML is it's supposed to be incurable. Long story short, it was a definite death sentence until right around the time I was originally dxd in 2007. Nothing was known about the cause until some years earlier then they discovered a "miracle" drug that could control it, which kept us alive (aka chemical remission) as long as we stayed on the drug. Then newer drugs came along that did a better job (with more dangerous potential side effects) that do an even better job. Finally, a few people good fed up with living on chemo after many years and stopped taking them (or their insurance stopped paying the ridiculous cost) and, surprise! Some of them didn't die. So, some smart Europeans decided to investigate. They started trials. After playing with the protocols the Americans decided to set protocols and have their own huge trial which I took part in. Cut to today, I'm still here 5 years later. That's a huge deal because almost no one had relapsed after making it to 5 years (well, last figure I saw was less than 20% fail rate) and I chat with people that are 10+ and still going. If I do fail, there are even higher generation drugs now than the one I was on that show even better promise of an actual cure so I don't understand this onc's problem. It's not like I'm 20 something and risking shortening my lifespan. I've already beaten my originally estimated expiration date!!! :confused::lol: Most of the Oncology community is very optimistic that, for at least some of us, these new drugs may just be an actual cure. If he tries to put me back on the drugs he better have a heck of a good reason or he'll be in for a fight :rant:lau

Yeah. Chemo and radiation can have whopper side effects... hard at times to decide the best course of action.

I did the whole every 3 month roadtrip. took me literally years to talk my onc into 4 and then finally 6 months. It's just in the case of these chemo drugs the "cure" can be as bad as the cause. The final push that made my onc give in (as long as joined the trial where I would be closely monitored) and allow me to try stopping was it started doing damage to my heart (progressive pericardial effusion) and was already doing fun things to some other organs. It was also wonderful to have my hair stop falling out!
