Welsummers or Jubilee Orpington??

Hi!

This is a courtesy post for a relative. She actually feels really dumb for asking this. She ordered 3 welsummers from Meyers hatchery. These chickens are 18 weeks old. Now, she’s thinking they might actually be Jubilee Orpingtons.

They are her favorites out of almost all of their chickens... she loves Jubilee Orpingtons so she wouldn’t mind, but she ordered Welsummers so they will lay colored red-brown eggs for her son.

Is there any chance these birds are welsummers or are they possibly crossed with welsummers???

She is going to keep them, she just wants to know if she needs to contact the hatchery to get welsummers.

They look like Jubilee Orpingtons or speckled Sussex to me.

I would think they're more likely to be speckled Sussex. They certainly are not Welsummers.

I think they are Speckled Sussex. The J. Orpingtons I have seen are huge chickens, beach ball size. I have an SS, and these look just like her. BTW, she's my best layer, eggs are light brown.

If she had them as chicks, pics will tell, the JO and SS chicks are very different, whereas welsummers and ss look very similar as babies, more likely to mix up....

I would think they're more likely to be speckled Sussex. They certainly are not Welsummers.

The hen at the bottom of the first picture sure looks like a Welsummer.
