Our local TSC doesn't ask for any personal info, but they do require a 6 minimum purchase. According to their store manager, it is to prevent the single Easter chick thingy. However, catch this....we went in last week, and they had 73 Golden Comets about 2 weeks old, that had started picking each other bloody. We ended up buying them all for $0.30 each. I have the picking under control now, and they're all doing well. Haven't lost one, and it's been a week. Vicks on the bloody areas, lots of grass and clover, and plenty of feed and water area does wonders!

Both local feed stores and TSC have a 6 chick min.

I know TSC and the one feed store I got chicks from wanted name and address. Both stated it was in case there was a problem with the batch, they would know who to contact. Since it was on my farm account, I had to give the correct ifo.

Was that the wrong thing? What is the purpise of having name and address?

The other feed store was only doing pre-orders so of course they would have had my name to!

4hooves&featheredfriends :

NH - it seems to depend on where you go. AGWAY claims a 12 bird minimum even on ducks. Other places 3 & 6. As long as they know that you are knowledgeable in the keeping of fowl, then they combine orders.

Agway in Keene, NH only has a 6 chick minimum, I assume that goes for Peterborough and Milford too since all three are owned by the same people.

But in NH you can just hit one of the many chicken swaps on almost any weekend and buy them privately from friendly BYCers and get as few or as many as you want!

Why would anyone sell bunnies less than 4 weeks old in any quantity?! I thought you can't sell a rabbit until it is "properly weaned" which is impossible to do before 4 weeks old since babies that young have to have milk!

A. No person shall sell, raffle, give away, or offer for sale as pets or novelties, or offer or give as a prize, premium, or advertising device any living chicks, ducklings, or other fowl under two months old in quantities of less than six or any unweaned mammalian companion animal or any dog under the age of seven weeks without its dam, or any cat under the age of seven weeks without its queen. Dealers may offer immature fowl, unweaned mammalian companion animals, dogs or cats under the age of seven weeks for sale as pets or novelties with the requirement that prospective owners take possession of the animals only after fowl have reached two months of age, mammalian companion animals have been weaned, and dogs and cats are at least seven weeks of age. Nothing in this section shall prohibit the sale, gift, or transfer of an unweaned animal (i) as food for other animals, (ii) with the lactating dam or queen or a lactating surrogate dam or queen that has accepted the animal, (iii) due to a concern for the health or safety of the unweaned animal, or (iv) to animal control, an animal shelter, or a veterinarian.
