Went to TSC *about the 6 chick minimum

Maybe Agway sold us only 6 since Dan specifically mentioned he was taking them home to accompany our other chicks?

How do these state law minimums apply to places like MPC? Do they only have to follow their own state's law or do they have to comply to the laws of the state they are shipping to?

I noticed that at the TSC the other day when did they even make that "law" ?

I just can't buy that "6 chick minimum" - sorry, pun intended. Here in Ohio, TSC enforced the 6 chick rule but at Rural King, they made you buy a minimum of 25! They also said it was a state law which is bull puckey.

I just went to Meyers Hatchery on Saturday and they have no minimum OR maximum. If you want to buy only one chick, have at it. (Oh, eta, I bought 2 more chicks just because they were cute! I got a pair of Buff Brahma Bantams - one was yellow and one was white so I am truly hoping I have a roo and pullet. Anyone know?

I'd think a hatchery would know more than anyone and if there was a rule, the hatchery would be the first to enforce as it would mean more money for them.

TSC and RKO are all about money. I can see they may not want to see 1 or 2 chicks or ducklings to anyone who just wants a novelty easter basket filler but c'mon. If you have an established flock, a minimum is ridiculous

They claim that it is a shipping kind of thing. I would have loved to have gotten 2 bantams and 2 chicks, but now I just have 6 assorted reds. I do love them though!!! The only way that they will let you get less is if they have a hurt one that they are just going to cull. Thats how I got my new rooster "Little Dude"...

In our town the local ordinances say that one must sell nothing less than six chicks which might be why our feed stores and TSC will not sell less than six at a time.

Town & Country store where i ordered my chicks (first two comming tomorrow!!) we had to order 6 or more. When he asked her why she said because people think chickens are for pets and when people find out they are not pets they ditch them so when law states 6 or more they dont get any because they only want one or two.


I was like okayy..walk away..

People can get one anywhere, its really dumb.

This law may be good for some of you, but for us urbanites (due to limits) it stinks. I am glad WA has no such law.

its their policy so that they dont sell it to people that would torture them or anything is what i was told by the maneger at my TSC.
