ducks.jpg Hello duck lovers in or near EL PASO, TEXAS!
I know it's a long shot but in case anyone can help or wants to adopt! Even if it's only a few that get homes, they could have a better chance at life.

Right now there are ~30 domestic duck starving in the parking lot of ASCARATE PARK and ASCARATE LAKE. Local Animal Services has chosen not to intervene and the park operators do not care for them.

The Stick House Sanctuary is a local wildlife rescue that has requested help from the community due to the negative impact on local wildlife. Here is more info from them ....

There are wild ducks all around down here in Houston.
Signs in all the parks around here say "DO NOT FEED THE WILD DUCKS."

They don't look like they are starving to me.
This is El Paso, not Houston.

We do have wild Mallard (?) and Canadian geese that migrate in and out of the area. Those guys are doing fine for now. It's the dumped pet ducks that are starving. Apparently it's a yearly issue around this time.

Yes...it is a daily issue here...so much so that nothing is done about these type ducks.
Try the links I posted. There is one resuce in your area that may be able to help you.

I agree, it's going to be an ongoing issue. However, with us being in the desert, the natural resources needed for them to survive are pretty limited. It seems the numbers are overwhelming right now, so it has been getting more attention locally.

Oh yes, there are small farms all around the outskirts of town, and others who keep backyard poultry and waterfowl in town. I figured the more exposure the better to try and let interested animal lovers know. I'm working on posting...in between work schtuff....
I 1/2 way want some ducks, but I am 9 hours away from you. I am hopeful that someone steps in. And I am hopeful someone gets a fine for dumping.

Should be more than a fine it's a disgrace this goes on that animals are throwaways. Left to starve or be killed by any number of predators whether animal or human.
We have a new pup that was fully pregnant and thrown out of the back of a fast moving pick-up truck. Blind in one eye, fractured hip and lost her pups. She's gaining weight now and healing, but it's really beyond words. PS Her name is Lola.
