What’s Going on With His Eye?

Hi everyone,

I have this lone duckling who will be staying with me for a few weeks. It’s a long story, but so far he has been doing excellent! Great eater, great pooper!

I just took him out of his bath and noticed his eye like this. I haven’t heard any sort of congestion or wheezing and he is very chipper and full of himself!

Any thoughts on what this could be and how I could treat this?

Because of his temporary situation I had not given him a deep dish to put his head in, just daily baths and a waterer. I am adding that tonight however.

Thank you in advance!

It appears there is some mild conjunctivitis occurring; there are various causes of conjunctivitis ranging from trauma to bacteria overabundance, to excessive debris accumulation.
For treatment, I suggest flushing the eye with some warm saline copiously, then apply an ophthalmic ointment such as Terramycin, or a gel such as Vetericyn.
Repeat the treatment once a day, and ensure deep clean water is being provided to allow the duckling to clean its eyes.
