My whole experiment was to see if 12 chickens could impact the grasshopper plagues i routinely deal with on my acreage. Insecticides were so much trouble and the winds too strong. Grasshoppers dont stand a chance since i got them, nor do other bugs except fireants and mud wasps. Had no idea how entertaining they are. I restock by getting older hens from my friends egg laying business. I dont care if they lay eggs or not. Hence the name and i call them my assasin squad. The experiment has been a success and i enjoy sitting watching them. I have them trained to stay out of my shop so no more slick slip and falls when tinkering on projects.

No, im overrun with cottontails and a little chicken wire around my wifes rosebushes and my fruit tree saplings and damage thwarted. Counted 22 walking one lap around my yard and outbuildings. They do intentionally tease the penned dogs but ganging up and running past one by run and then reverse the run.

Mine is just a bit of a play on words, I'm in France so chickens are 'les poules' and I'm a girl / chick and chickens and chicks! So is it chicken girl or chicken chicken who knows

Have you ever thought about getting guineas?

Never was interested by guineas. A neighbor down the road had a couple hundred chickens, guineas, and muscoveys but the guineas were the ones who ran out in front of you first. Almost daily roadkills for a while. Im more interested in the varieties of chickens and now planning a second remodel expansion of my coop run system.

Yeah I hear guineas are pretty dumb but I think they might eat more bugs than chickens, if you were wanting just bug control I thought guineas might be better.

I dont even butcher one of my calves cuz i married a city girl this time around. She feeds the wild rabbits so there aint no way she will let me shoot one. I give my excess venison to some of my kids and grandkids cuz she now is not wanting venison. With a wife daughters and grandaughters, daughter in law, granddaughters in law i gave up trying to figure females out. Come on deer camp!!! Grumpy old men only!!!

Can you eat them?

Everything can be eaten. The rabbits, guineas and grasshoppers.
Just say no to guineas. Trust me no one wants to hear those d@mn things screaming butt crack all day long.
I've found the ducks do better then chickens with eaten bugs
