What age did your rooster crow?

Noodle, our Easter Egger cockerel started at 5 weeks. He sounded like a velociraptor being strangled. He was an early bloomer overall.

He was recently rehomed for being too ready to make babies with my babies.

He was about 15 weeks here.

I think if varies depending upon whether the cockerel has a roll model, or not. My Australorp was a slow learner since he never heard another roster crow until he found his own voice (don't remember age). His son started at about 3 month after hearing his dad sounding off. A couple other roosters in the neighborhood were a riot to hear. After my rooster was gone, they had to figure it out on their own. Talk about some of the weirdest sounding crowing! One spent two months trying to figure it out, and sounded like someone was strangling a hen!

Dagwood, a Welsummer who was previously known as Daisy, started at 3 months, but he sounds like an owl; whoo-whoo. I’m waiting for his voice to crack. He doesn’t have his tail, yet, but his feathers are getting gorgeous! Mahogany red, black, orange, and prettier every day. I had an Easter Egger roo, Ira, who followed the rule book, and crowed just as soon as he got his tail, 4-5 months. The first few attempts sounded like he was gargling, but I rehomed him with the first real crow. If Dagwood is sweet, I’m going to keep him. I regret giving up Ira. He was such a sweet boy.

I foolishly got 4 Polish Frizzle chickens from craigslist at about 6 weeks, 3/4 ended up being roosters and the 4th was a bantam. The bantam is one of my best layers although the eggs are smaller. They were very pretty birds and was able to trade one rooster for a cute brown araucana. They all started crowing between 18-21 weeks.
