I'm trying to identify this duck! Has a small black mark on top of the head.

It is the rare and elusive "witch-butt duckling" :p Seriously, the marking on it's lower back and rear looks like a witch, complete with a pointed hat and in a black robe and a pointed nose.

Lol...that's funny!

I'd like an opinion on another one, but i have to wait til morning for a good pic. The mom on that one is Rouen and the dad is khaki...and it and four of its siblings look nothing like either of them did as ducklings. The other six look just like mom as a duckling.

Edit to add**But I guess dad could also be the white crested...but none have a crest...genetics confuse me lol

I know genetics confuse me also... I thought when breeding my quail, I'd get maybe... The parent morphs and maybe one or two mutations.

I am starting to think my quails have been hit by a radioactive rainbow with how many strange babies they have been making. I have 2 whites, 1 silver and 1 cinnamon, the cinnamon having hatched 2 days ago, none of these being the blue faced or red breasted morph that the parents also produce. :p

These are the others that I'm trying to identify. See above quote

If from a mixed flock, then it's likley a pekin mix. Pekins mixed with darker breeds (such as swedish) will produce spotted ducklings.

It does look similar to an ancona, but is NOT an ancona unless both parents are. Theres more to a breed than just their outside paint job!
