That would be fun! I'd love to have a PR hen for my roo. I've already told hubby I'm keeping him. I'm sacrificing my Plymouth Rock pullets in exchange for keeping two cockerels of my choice. I was flogged by a white leghorn when I was child. I don't get attached to white chickens, I'm a chick racist!

You may change your mind! My barred rock hens each lay me an egg like clockwork every day. Like 7 out of 7 missing only 2 days each since they started about 8 weeks ago. They are bossy though
I assume your Plymouth rocks are white then though not barred...I was confused!

i have no white chickens unless you count the partially white silver laced wyandottes but they're more black. Too many hawks here to keep white chickens.

it's not a red sex link some other red breed maybe. if it was a sex link it would be a male and it's coming in the wrong color for that

The reds they have at Meyer are Rhode Island (I know its not a RIR) and New Hampshire. That's why I thought maybe NH but it didn't have much of a red glow as day old but I have no experience with that breed. Just looking at online pictures. Mine was all yellow and is definitely turning red. I do know they hatched NH that same weekend because I checked the "available now" day olds on their site while waiting for mine to arrive - to get an idea what I may get in the assortment. But that wasn't as smart as I thought because I received an australorp and they didn't show any available. Hmmm. Really curious about this little yellow-red chick.

Thanks Jules! Now I will cross reference which of these start yellow and end up with some type of red. Feathersite should show these as babies. I have a project for the next hour it so...lol. although only a small part of these should have any red at all so that narrows it a lot. No feathered feet so not Brahma. Too fluffy I think for Cornish...looks nothing like my golden buff but being a hybrid I guess it can't be eliminated. Btw, do you use deep litter method in your coop? I'm posting a thread on integrating chicks to existing DLM coop.

I do use deep litter. I have a bunch of health problems, so I have to have a low-maintenance coop. Can't wait to us the compost on our garden this Spring.

I'll have to check our Feathersite. One of my chicks now has a red comb! He's the only one, so far.

I've subscribed to your posts, so I get an email when you start a topic or comment. My husband loves the chickens, but he's not as "into" them as I am. I love it that there's a whole bunch of us who are crazy about chickens!

I'm a gardener too so that's a big benefit of having chickens. My husband likes projects and I think he likes that I have a "hobby" that integrates his handyman abilities he pretends to not be as into chickens as I am but I catch him outside talking to the hens or sitting on the couch holding a chick frequently! Yes, the brooder is in the livingroom. Last week I came home from work to find a newer bigger brooder waiting for my approval. What a surprise!
