im jumping on here 2 years later. I have a question for both of youSorry. My brain just went uh duh! I get what you were typing now. Just needed that visual. Thx
Actually, it should not be given in water for a few reasons.im jumping on here 2 years later. I have a question for both of you
@TwitchysChicks @casportpony all info that I see says that baytril should be added to drinking water. Can I administer oral solution directly or is this too potent? I have the same 10% oral solution. I don’t want to give it to the entire flock and I don’t want to separate her
What was the outcome after administering Baytril?
Thank you! That’s what I was hoping to hear.Actually, it should not be given in water for a few reasons.
With the 10% solution give 0.05 ml per pound of body weight orally twice a day.
- Sick birds won't drink enough medicated water for it to be effective.
- Baytril is very bitter and most animals won't drink water medicated with it.
- Baytril might bind with the calcium in hard water which could make it less effective.
Do you have one that's sick?Thank you! That’s what I was hoping to hear.![]()
Not approved/prohibited, yes, but illegal? No one is gonna go to jail for giving Baytril to their sick pet chicken.illegal to use in chickens
Not true, Baytril (enrofloxacin) *is labeled and approved* for use in cattle and swine.other food animals
True, prohibited in poultry and food animals other than cattle and swine.specifically called out in the FARAD prohibited drugs list.
Do look and you will see that it *is labeled and approved* for use in swine and cattle. Where did you read that it was not approved for use in food animals other than poultry?Sorry, just the messenger. I don't make the rules.
