What are people thinking these days? Venting time!

i was in our local tractor supply in the sping.the parents and grandparents was buying baby chicks because the kids thought they were cute.my thoughts were, poor babies.once the newness wore off if they survived that long.as you stated they would be discarded.

Reminds me of a pink poodle I saw out for a walk. It's weird. It's sad that many people mistreat the birds once they grow up. My grandparents used to buy these for Easter for my dad. They were lucky to live near a farm that took them once they started to smell.

The problem with people concerning these chicks, is that they don't care where the chicks end up. It's money in their pocket, and LOTS of roosters off of their hands.

To them it's a Win/Win situation.

I think it's wrong that people do it, but there have been laws made in some states to keep this from happening.

In OK, Where I live, I haven't seen any of these chicks in a long time. I think there is progress being made, and trying to bring up old YouTube videos to complain about is just starting a ranting conversation.
In what way do you consider it a ranting conversation? I see this topic as an informative subject some of the public may not have been aware of. Everyone has their own opinions regarding the subject matter and all are welcome to voice their personal concerns both pro and con.

It is true the two videos are dated but you can search and find very recent videos of this same type on youtube. I am very glad to hear progress is being made in the state of OK.

It would be nice to start seeing other states follow. Ranting conversations have brought wonderful changes in history!

Umm, No, that honestly is how I feel.

What about the possible indirect harm to the chicks already mentioned? They are bought for children because of the Tele Tubby colours and not as live creature that need care. Eventually, most will probably be neglected.

And who mentioned any government getting involved? Apart from you, that is.

I'm surprised that this practice is getting any support here. It turns dependent young creatures into novelty toys for families who don't have a clue what is needed then or when the chicks grow. If the suggestion that it's away to get rid of surplus males, that's very cynical.

I also wonder what this does to the chickens long-term...does the dye fade, and does it cause health problems later on? Can a green chick grow up to be a normal chicken? I wonder...
Our first chickens were a bunch of these colored chicks. 30 to 40 years ago the didn't as intensly colored but the all grew out of that colored down into the color the good lord and the farmer ment them to be In this case white, since they were white rocks and leghorns.

There is always possible indirect harm for the fact you are selling a baby chicken. People think they are nice and cute whether colored or not. Should we outlaw the selling of natural different colored fuzzy chickens as well?
