Now thats a lot of cats

And alot of poop!

I don't think the spaying will help, but it is still a good thing to do if you are not breeding her. While she is at the vets you can clean the house with enzyme liquid.A black light will help you to see the urine you don't know about.

I had a cat that sprayed.Total emotional issue that we were unable to resolve.Limiting the cat to an area and providing an outdoor enclosure is an option. I have new cats now and one started with peeing out of the box.I moved the cats out of the house.

I had a cat ruin an entire house.I loved the cat but it just isn't worth the damage to go through it again.

Some people swear by drugs, herbals, and so on.

I hope you can find a way to resolve this problem.

Your probably right, but it makes me feel better.

Andi, meet MC....MC, meet Andi. Andi, MC is a bit twisted but we love him and know from long (HARD) experience not to take him seriously.

ETA: Sorry, Miz Red I'm not sure spaying is going to help.

I figured that he wasn't real serious. I think most people that would do that wouldn't say it publicly. Unfortunately that's how a lot of people problem solve. They think punishment will solve it. I wrote it more for all the readers that might do that and not realize that sometimes behavior we don't like in our pets isn't them being bad. Punishing isn't going to fix a bladder infection. It will create more frustration which can likely lead to other not so good outcomes, like abandoning pets in the country and such.

Its easy to snicker at comments like his. I'm sure he meant no harm and was just trying to lighten it up. I've just seen way too many people actually do stuff like that for real and it just isn't funny to me any more.

Spaying is usually a real good idea. However I would tend to doubt it'd solve the spraying problem in this case. Is she *spraying* (marking) or is she *urinating* (basic body function)? I'm not meaning to be picky, it's just that the cause and thus cure of the two thing is often fairly different. What exactly is she doing?

If it is spraying as in marking, the solution most likely lies in reducing stress. You can try Feliway (it is NOT a drug, btw) but it is unreliable, helps sometimes but by no means always.

If it is that she's routinely peeing elsewhere than the litter box, it's worth a good vet workup to look for physical causes of which there can be many, and if that finds nothing then she may require different litterbox arrangements (size, style, location, litter type, etc).

I would not claim that totally 100% of all these problems can realistically be cured, but a real high percentage can if you keep at it. (Maybe you have, I'm not passing judgement since I have no idea -- I'm just sayin'.)

Good luck,

Pat

Hi, Shes 'marking' spraying..like from being in heat. She still uses her litter box also...
I have a call out to a vet now..he going to call me tonight. We'll see what he has to say.
I know its not a urinary problem..it only happens around the times she goes into heat...
Honestly..if i cant get her to stop i will have her put down. She is un-adoptable at this point because of the spraying.(who would adopt a cat that sprays in the house?) And i wouldnt put her in a scary shelter anyways...i'd rather have her put down peacefully with me there with her. I hope it wont come to that...
also... i cant put her outside..shes an indoor cat..and we have ALOT of foxes around us..also..fisher cats and coyotes too.. Again..i'd rather have her put down then be eaten by something..plus its freezing outside now..

I'm so torn..i dont know what to do..

Ah. Well if it's just around when she's in heat, spaying might indeed help. I'd say go for it unless your vet for some reason is against it (which I would not expect).

You could also try the Feliway spray, not the automatic unit but the little manual spray bottle that you can spritz once every day or two on the places that she usually sprays, as she's going into heat (til she is spayed). It's like $30 or so for a wee bottle, but it might actually help.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
