What are the top three reasons you have chickens?

2. Eggs
3. They are so cheerful and it makes me happy to be near them.

My top three reasons for starting my chicken journey:

1.) They lay the BEST eggs! They taste amazing and and have dark, healthy yolks. They are also great to bake with. Getting protein has never been so easy

2.) They are great for the garden! They make excellent fertilizer and are great pest control.
3.) They are so relaxing. Just sitting outside watching them eat and play in the yard is so fun. I could sit outside for hours with them. Even cleaning out their coop helps me clear my mind (maybe it's the smell,

)

The best things that have happened since getting chickens:
- They are an excellent learning tool for my friends's kids and my boyfriend's neices and nephews.
- They are a great conversation starter! I have met so many new people since my journey has begun.
- Building the coop and caring for the chickens have made my family and I closer.
- (my favorite) They have sparked a new interest in healthier and organic eating year round. We have had a large organic garden for awhile, but when winter hits we don't eat as many fruits and vegetables.

(1) Great therapy - they get me outside and active throughout the day - every day.
(2) I want to be more self-sufficient, and chickens are a great step towards that goal.
