what are y'all saving from the wild to deal with coming crisis?

"clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse"
a quote from one of the books I have read

Electric power on the gasoline pumps
gasoline chain saws for heat
Electric food preservation

Anyone research salt or smoking preservation of food, but then again I don't have a smoke house or a salt mine

I like the idea of rabbit tractors and cooking that rabbit with a wood fire and pressure cooker or boiling/roasting

The problems with certain types of crises , the solutions are difficult if not impossible, yet I enjoy the mental pursuit of a solution.

I want to either build or buy some of those Racks that load at the top and roll out at the bottom... For Cycling through Canned goods. Its just me but I tend to buy things on sale....

I have a design going that is a summer kitchen devoted to canning and processing chicken... The back half is work space and shelving designed to handle Mason jars... Each shelf will be a drawer so I can view all the jars at once... inspect and look at dates.

I hate chinking the glass together.... I expect to can dog food as well using backs and ribs and fatty bits...

I enjoy the mental pursuit as well.

Drying food is an excellent way to preserve it. common preservatives are sugar and salt. In the Pantry One should pack at least fifty pounds of each. In waterproof air proof containers.

Racks can be made to dry anything and everything with just some dowling and screen... Here the humidity is conducive to the process. A smoke house can be made using an old refrigerator an a small fan (can be run by solar) Small heater to burn wood low and slow the fan pushes the smoke out and into the Refrigerator and it escapes out a vent in the back . doesnt take much.... Liquid smoke can be made by retrieving the smoke residue from the ducts and hydrating with Alcahol.

It sounds like you'll be canning all your own things but a note to anyone who is buying canned food; Tomatoes are not a good idea.
Cans are lined with plastic and the acid in Tomatoes leaches the BPA into your food.
Not to mention the galvanizing from the can itself. Canned tomatoes can be shifted over to mason jars and canned again in a water bath....

sourcrout is another offender.... but home made sourcrout is Easy Easy Easy to make... Canned in mason jars...

I keep on hand books that explain food preservation. I keep the basic ingredients to do this. I have a large pressure canner and canning supplies. Changing your thinking from meat centered diets to vegetable proteins which are easier to store. Surviving includes basic skills and the ability to think out of the box. I’m interested in learning more about water filtration systems that can be made with readily available components. That’s useful.

Yep The best way is to use animal protein as seasoning...

Rice and beans together provide a complete protein chain... seasoned with Salt pork.

I love love Black Beans and rice....

Wikipedia quote:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Famine_food
A famine food or poverty food is any inexpensive or readily available food used to nourish people in times of hunger and starvation, whether caused by extreme poverty such as during economic depression; by natural disasters, such as drought; or by war or genocide.

Foods associated with famine need not be nutritionally deficient, or unsavoury. People who eat famine food in large quantity over a long period of time may become averse to it over time. In times of relative affluence, these foods may become the targets of social stigma and rejection.

The characterization of a foodstuff as "famine" or "poverty" food is primarily social. For example lobster and other crustaceans may be considered poverty food in some societies and luxury food in others depending on periods.

Also, quinoa is a complete protein. It’s easy to store and can be prepared in a variety of ways. Another good to know is rolled oats keep for years, can be used as a meat extender or ground into flour. I make sourdough bread and my starter is almost 7 years old. You can make bread without added yeast as long as you have flour. However, I do have enough yeast to last a year or more. Simple things like knowing how to make simple foods like tortillas, pasta, or scallion pancakes take very few ingredients and provide nourishment simply.
