what are y'all saving from the wild to deal with coming crisis?

I had never heard of purple tree collards. Now I’m very intrigued. I love greens!

I got mine as cuttings from here: http://projecttreecollard.org/

You should try them! I got cuttings in the mail and they grew like champs. Usually kale and greens aren't my favorite but wilted collards under scrambled eggs is my new favorite breakfast. It's also 100% from my backyard, which I think is awesome since I can't really do that for many meals!

People worry about alkaloids in Comfrey giving birds liver damage despite studies with thousands of birds only improving their health but be careful if there is indeed calcium in collards.
Extra calcium can give birds up to four months old liver damage.
Not great for roosters either but they can handle it.
That's why I don't feed my birds layer feed.

Good point! I only have a flock of laying hens so it's not an issue for my birds but it could be a problem if you have a different type of flock.

Freezing some. Doesn't mean that electric will still be working, but at least I'll know that the weevils and their eggs have been killed. An 88 pound bag (40 kg) takes up about 2 cubic feet of freezer space, but will stave off starvation for my flock of 5 chickens and 28 (and counting) quail for a month at standard rations, I can stretch that if times were tough to make it last a bit longer, at the risk of malnutrition. (Much less malnutrition than NO feed). To put that into perspective, a typical chest type freezer is between 15 and 19 cubic feet. 12 cubic feet of white rice is enough for one adult for a year at double rations, and I'm figuring double rations will be called for when smeg-hits-the-fan, as we won't be couch potatoes, we'll be working to get by which will burn more calories. The extra cubic feet will be dry split peas and lentils (things I can eat or feed out to my animals), raw or cooked. Water is a whole different topic, and I'll be forced to live on God's good graces for that; it's heavy, takes more room that I have to store it and is EXTREMELY expensive at the store in bottles (even the 5 gallon jugs are $10 a bottle PLUS another $10 to $15 deposit for the jug). I'm a little old lady, I cannot afford bottled water!

if the crisis is loss of electrical power .... what changes in your current plan?

A definite possibility.
Our grid is extremely fragile.
If something like the conflict with Iran should escalate, they claim to have sleeper cells just waiting for such an event and our electrical grid would be an easy target.

Our system is so decrepit, squirrels regularly deprive millions of people of power.
Perhaps even more bizarrely; "Along with squirrels, baby-monitoring devices have also have been exposed as potential threats to cyber security."

Man affects climate but a tiny shift in the sun's activity can easily overwhelm any effect we provide.

Climate Change has been blown out of proportion to enrich special interests.
People have been indoctrinated by claims such as; "All scientists agree."
College research used to do things like look for cures. Now they are given grants by large corporations to provide evidence that supports those corporations.
There is no money in cures. You lose your entire base. Treatment is the moneymaker.
This financing has also tainted many climate scientists.
I don't believe that giving billions to Al Gore and other climate magnates helps the earth.

As evidence of how easily we are indoctrinated, I give you the support of Islam by women and Gays, when 1.1 billion Muslims support the Sharia law that legalizes the murder of Gays and rape victims.

Pakistan alone murders 1000 women a year in "Honor Killings"

Yes, maybe. But, we change the things we can- or at least if you are semi intelligent and mentally capable, you do- There is no physical evidence of God either but yet the whole wold, minus a few atheists and agnostics (though they are searching) believe- I'd rather be at the pearly gates knowing I loved my neighbor and took care of our fathers great gift, planet earth- but that is off topic. Even if 60% of scientist, who studied global change and said that man has had a negative influence and here is how you can help to stop/slow so your children and children's-children etc. can have a habitable planet to live on. That is not a risk or gamble I am willing to be wrong about. It does seem the (kind, good, decent,) smart thing to do, making changes to my personal life to spare others pain. How about the cost of this hostile weather? Do you think our government can keep up? Or selectively fund your area if you support IT? How about other countries? Where do you think their people will go? No wall big enough for that.. So common sense, not conspiracy theory dictates, or just plain and simple don't be a jerk.

Another excellent source of protein are guinea pigs. They are extremely efficient in converting low quality fodder (grass) into meat. That is if you can overcome your attraction to their cuteness.
Yep that cute factor does me in.... and I can attest they are prolific....

Not much except pumping water.... I have a little potbelly stove and ready source of fuel in the form of Redshank.

My water tank will last me and my Livestock probably two months if I am careful.... by then the power should come back. Or I will rely on solar and wind power ....

Don't be deceived then that renewables are better for the environment than hydrocarbons are. Wind turbines are the greatest killer of raptors and bats on the planet (75% reduction of raptors at one wind farm in India over a 20-year period), create health damaging infrasound for those unfortunate who live near them, poison the environment via rare earth mining in China, cause forests to be clear cut and create an eyesore in pristine environments, and produce less energy than it costs to make and install them.
