What are you adding to your flock this year?

I really want to add some blue rocks, a few more Orps - maybe BBS, and DH has started selling some of our eggs so he wants to add some color. So we'll probably add in a few EEs and a couple of Marans.

I'm staying small. Will be adding 2 Saxony hens. Unless I sell all the chickens and have 2 duck flocks... but that may be too loud. Then I was debating on a trio of Serama for house chickens. Or quail. I don't know!

We are adding 2 Columbian Wyandottes, 2 Appenzeller spitzhauben, 2 silver spangled hamburgs and one meyer meal maker. It will be interesting to see what it turns out to be.

I'm still down sizing on chickens, they aren't as interesting anymore. Keepers will stay til old age or sickness gets them, but no more new chickens. They just suck.
Adding to the ducks, though. They grow so much faster, can be w/o heat sooner, can be outside sooner & bigger eggs. Getting 2 pet ducks for the pet flock of 4 and 8 meat ducks for dinner.

I am adding 16 Turkeys,
6 Straight Run Narragansett Turkey
2 Straight Run Blue Slate Turkey
4 Straight Run Royal Palm Turkey
2 Straight Run Bourbon Red Turkey
2 Straight Run Black Spanish Turkey ALREADY ORDERED JUST WAITING ON A SHIP DATE

I am also putting in a Holderread order for Silver Appleyards, going to get 20 EQ ducklings
I will be adding Guienia Fowl and Pea Fowl as soon as I can put in an order.
I want to add more brown egg layers but I need another coop first.

I will be adding pigs and goats too and fingers crossed a barn with a milk cow.

WF Black Spanish are also one of our favorites. Love the contrast between the white face and black bodies. Good white egg layers, too.

Aren't the WFBS awesome?

Everything I've read on them says "Flighty, avoids human contact, so so egglayers". My Rosie is not flighty, she's a cuddlebug and very curious about humans. She lays 6 days out of 7. She was a mistake, sold as a black sex link. She is a happy accident.

I'm surprised more people don't raise them.

I agree. Of the 26 chickens we have, only two will fly up on my shoulder. One is a Golden Campine hen, and the other is a WF Black Spanish roo. Of course, the first time he flew up there I thought I was being attacked

Here is a pic of our hen, that, sadly, we lost to a possum a couple of months ago. She is with a BSL in this pic:

Sorry for your loss.

The only thing I find unusual about my Rosie is that none of the roosts in her coop seem to be high enough for her. If we open the human door to the coop in the evenings, she will fly up to it to roost; being only a few inches from the ceiling.

This weekend when my hubby is off work we plan to create a high roost for her by suspending a board from the ceiling.

I really like the buff orpingtons and would like to add some of them as well as some of the other colors this spring. I am also thinking about some Brahma's but not sure. What does anyone recomend? i am new to chickens so i am still learning. right now i have RIR, BSL, Columbian Rock and buff orpingtons:)
