What are you baking now?

Well come on over. You don't need an invitation to my house you just come on over. I'll make another Blackberry Pie, I'll be baking most of the day-I'm making goodies for the church bake sale. So we'll be in the kitchen visiting and I'll be baking- my kinda day!

I made a pumpkin pie with my leftover frozen pie crust that I had after the amazing chocolate chip cookie pie. No pictures of this one, I assume everyone knows what pumpkin pie looks like. It is my very first pumpkin pie I've ever made AND it's made from frozen pumpkin puree from my very own pumpkins.

Ok, well actually from my parents garden since I'm in town, but I planted, baked, and pureed them myself.

Word of warning..do NOT EVER attempt to use one of those stupid magic bullets to puree pumpkin if you do not have a food processor. I will never touch a magic bullet again...I also got a fancy new food processor for Christmas.

I use my magic bullet for grinding flour. Quinoa flour is great added to anything you want to add a nutty flavor to and I can't find it here in Reno so the bullet it is.

But yeah it pulverizes most things too much to replace a food processor. Congrats on the new one. I've been requesting a new one for 4 years now but the family dosn't seem to hear me...

My mom got me the food processor...I think honestly because she called me in the middle of using the dreaded magic bullet with the pumpkin so she heard me very, very unhappy. Sooo try complaining a lot and then maybe your family will get the hint to get ya one.

My Mother in law broke my food processor.

This is how I feel about it

do I really have to chop all that parsley on my own.

Please don't make me slice onions

My DH is stalking me for my famous pesto pizza, no pesto with out the food processor, absolutely not. It's my only weight to throw around when it comes to getting it fixed (and I might add because his mother broke it).

I miss it so much I never realized how much I love baking and cooking with it... no pies, no tarts, no graham cracker crusts.

Maybe DH will fix it soon.

By the way I have another confession to make. I thought about making my DH breakfast this morning French Toast while he was running. Instead I sat outside looking at my three day old baby chicks that my broody chicken adopted. It's a miracle, and I am so amazed. And happy when I hear the little chirps.

cmb19 and eastbaychicks! You both had me laughing out loud this morning! Too funny! I will try the whining thing and see if that finally works and if that doesn't work I'll try it eastbaychicks way. I'll refuse to keep making their favorite recipes that require so much prep work! That'll get 'em.

Actually at this point I'm probably just going to go down and get my own. That's the way DH prefers to shop for me anyway. He wants me to go to the store with him, point out what I want and then he carries it to the front of the store and pays for it. No wrapping or bows and no bag to open

Maybe when I visit them I should leave post-its all over the place with things like; All of you kids are going to get together and buy Mom one really awesome pan or donate one day of work in the garden planting new plants for her or...
lol.png

These are the kinds of things I'm always suggesting.

Then again I'm one of those people that turns shopping into a chore because I'm so set on getting the "perfect gift" that I know the person will love and as a result I hate shopping! So maybe the kids have the right idea. At least they still like to shop!

So... In this vein... I have decided that the only way powdered sugar won't taste like raw corn starch anymore is to make my own.
-Food processor
-magic bullet
or
-vita mix?

The son wants the vita mix because it is soup to ice cream, but it is really out of our range.
If money was an object, what does the most the best?
I have a blender, wimpy stick blender, and a smoothie maker. (Up side down blender-which is what I got when I wanted the magic bullet the first time.*that's why you are better off having him escort you to the register)
I had made powered sugar in the blender before, but it is gritty.
What are your opinions? I am thinking a big ol' mortar and pestle and smacking my frustrations out on it.
however pie crusts have to be store bought now, and a food processor may aide my crust making handicap.

The bread machine broke yesterday... So while I am at the salvation army shopping for a new used one, I need to know what else I need to be looking for.

one more thing, those of you that sell bread at FM's where do you find bags big enough to hold a whole loaf? baggies won't do it.

I vote food processor. Christmas brought me a new toy, a Baumix hand blender. I am in love. I bought the spice grinder to go with it... can you say fresh ground pepper, out of a shaker. Love love this for grinding all things, even cinnamon, and I still have to sift out the big pieces but then I just toss em back in and grind them up more. Oh and mortar and pestle was always the tool of choice for all my cooking classes... but I love technology too much. I save the physical stuff for the gym. Kitchen work, is for fun.

That being said I don't have either tools, nor do I dislike store purchased powdered sugar. I'm not there yet.

Whole wheat bread in the breadmaker right now... I LOVE that machine!

I googled Baumix. Now, that was what I was talking about when I asked for a stick blender for Christmas. (but, times are hard they do what they can and I am grateful

How did great grandma do it?...powdered sugar wasn't 40% corn starch then, she didn't need too.

...or maybe I am just too sensitive to the taste.
