What are you baking now?

Haven't done any real baking in a while. Just the usual Dun Hagan standard whole wheat bread. Five loaves last night because we still had one in the freezer from the weekend before.

Been trying to find the time my oldest daughter and I can try our hands at making angel food cakes, but it hasn't been working out.

I'm on an Artisan bread kick. I may even start a thread just for them. I pulled this out of the oven about 20 min ago:

We already know it's to die for. Made one yesterday, got too dark. DH & I ate it anyway, and even too dark is was fabulous. We ate the entire loaf in 24 hours! LOL

Beautiful bread! Not getting why you'd need to list it on a new thread though? What I love about this thread is that it covers all baked goods and I don't have to go hunting all over BYC for great ideas. I have to do that already for most things and it gets a little tiresome. The gals that collect recipes for us probably get a little frustrated with the search as well. Not trying to be contrary, just my opinion.

I haven't tried making artisan breads yet but I plan to try it at some point in the near future (health problems are limiting me right now but that's temporary) and the pics and recipes here are a joy to see. They encourage the rest of us to try new things.

Mochi is a popular Japanese pastry made from glutinous rice. Traditional mochi (like made in Japan) is made from specially treated rice. Mochi is made by soaking short grain glutinous or sticky rice overnight, cooking it, and pounding it into a sticky paste. The paste is then molded into shapes which is stuffed with a sweet red bean paste. Because of the time involved making traditional mochi, which we only do for New Years, there is a simplier way to make mochi for everyday baking.
Here is the recipe in case you would like to make some, it is very popular here in the islands
Ingredients:

1 box of sweet rice flour (16 oz,)
1 cup of real butter, melted
2 cup sugar
1 can evaporated milk
4 eggs

2 tsp. vanilla
2 tsp. baking powder
1 can of blueberry pie pilling

Stir sugar in melted butter. Add milk and mix well. Add eggs and mix into sugar and butter. Stir in baking powder, sweet rice flour and vanilla til you have a smooth consistency. Pour mix into a greased 9 x 13 pan, then fold in the blueberries. Bake uncovered for 1 hour at 350.

Let it cool to room temp before cutting it into squares, best to cut with a plastic knife.

There are a variety of ways to make mochi in the oven, the pumpkin flavor one is also delicious!

The Artisan bread recipe is here if you want it:
http://sundayhotpants.nocturne.net.nz/post/1007756098/no-knead-beer-bread

It burned with the directions as given. Have a couple notes on things I changed in this thread:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=4995286#p4995286

I see your point, and I like this thread too. I always check it and find lots of great things shared here.....and I post to it. But I also like threads like the Gump Bread one, or the 40 Min Rolls, etc. They generate plenty of discussion and shared ideas of their own. It's nice not having those mixed in with the cakes, pies, brownies, etc, etc. If the thread for artisan & no knead breads doesn't generate enough interest, that's ok with me.
