It's a plain white loaf that starts with mashed potatoes and is downright delicious!

From the King Arthur Flour online recipes

5 eggs

1 cup sugar

1 T salt

3/4 cup lard (I used Crisco shortening)

2 cups mashed potatoes (instant is okay)

1 pint warm water (105-115 degrees)

2 packages yeast

8 cups bread flour

"Soak yeast in warm water, then mix everything together and mix well. Let rise till twice in size. Shape rolls, put in pans and let rise. Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes, or until brown."

This made three 9x5 loaves and 15 rolls. What was I thinking? Plan on an extra half hour a day on the bike this week. Mmmmmm...so good!

I saw someone baking custard today - yummy - and was wondering if anyone had a great custard pie recipe to share. Also, are we limited here to baked goods? Because I've got cornish game hens baking right now in the oven

My favorite way to cook them is with dijon mustard, butter, fresh crushed garlic, fresh minced rosemary, and S&P, all mixed together and slathered on the hens before sticking them in the oven. OMG - so yummy, and the house smells so good afterwards

and BTW, I'm really wishing I had Amish potato bread to serve with my hens...

I just baked home made biscuits and am waiting for my teenager to wake up

Last week I baked chocolate z bread for a fellow BYCer and 2 loaves apple bread for my husband who is working out of state. He needed someting to feel at home, and I wouldn't fit in the box!!

Last night I made Katy's Lighter-Than-Air pan rolls. I think I didn't add enough flour because the dough seemed a bit "wet" and took for ever to rise. But, they turned out to be the best bread I've made so far

. I'm not much of a baker either,

We had them for breakfast and my kids loved them:)

OMG
like I needed to add all these great/beautiful/yummy recipes to my already overflowing recipe boxes......LOL but I just couldn't help myself you all are awsum. and I have to say I think I just gained 20 Lbs reading this thread, and I haven't baked anything today......... Made Spaghetti for supper was all.
Will start my baking soon as the weather gets cold enough to keep me inside usually mid to late November. I have tons of yard work yet to get done, fences to tighten before winter, storms to put on ect ect.
I will tell ya all this I come from a long line of bakers/cooks, and I have tons of recipes, but have not seen a better selection of great looking goodies and breads in a very long time. Wonderful thread this is.

I do have a request though....... somewhere reading this entire thread in 1 night I seen a post that someone makes their own butter? I seen where someone asked for the recipe? but missed it some how, If you can SHARE IT PLEASE PLEASE I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE IT. TYVM Kim

Butter is super easy. Get yourself some heavy cream. Put it in a mixing bowl and turn the mixer on medium, so it doesn't splash. Keep mixing past the whip cream stage. It will turn more solid and look butter-like but keep mixing. When it turns to butter, you will see the solid separate from the liquid. (buttermilk) Squeeze out the butter and add salt if you want. Keep the buttermilk for making biscuits.
