Other most definitely!! The chickens got a new coop (Chicken Cathedral!!) and large run last spring. The idea is that when we are home, they can free range. Well, DH was laid off last fall (luckily I am just finishing school and found a FT job in my field right away!

). Anyway...our new task is to build a wood fence (like picket fencing, patio railing, whatever it is called) around the patio, so they'll stop pooping on the concrete. DH is also working on plans to build a large shade structure over over several garden beds (we live in the desert and our peppers, tomatoes, etc can't handle the sun here! They do MUCH better with lattice type patio covers!). AND DH is working on a walking path from our patio out to garden with offshoots to the coop door, run gate, fruit trees, etc. He already is starting a list of other projects to do after these!

I think DH is liking being unemployed and me working!

I can't complain though, I didn't work while going to school and he does more than his share of stuff around here (including dishes, laundry, etc) while I juggle work and the last bit of school.

Hubby and I are in the planning stages of building our first coop

We are going to save quite a bit of money by doing it ourselves. At the moment, I am doing all the fact finding and research and so on, because Hubby works close to 80 hours a week! But I don't mind, it's fun.

We found plans online that somebody else came up with and now need only to modify it here and there to make it work for our situation. I am having a tough time trying to adjust all the measurements for the materials list, though . . . luckily I have handy friends who aren't as math challenged and can help.

Of course, in the next 2 weeks we'll also be tilling the front two flower beds, expanding the strawberry patch, and tilling the entire length and breadth of our main garden patch, which we use for veggies. It's approximately 20-23ish feet long by 6 or 7 feet wide, and raised . . .just outside our actual backyard. Kind of hard to describe in words, I'll see if I can't find a picture somewhere.

A big coop, a run for another coop, our house, and a greenhouse (out of reclaimed windows

)

When all that is done- a little guest sleeping cabin. It will never end, but I don't mind.

Oh my, the list goes on.......it may be a shorter list if you ask what project are you NOT working on right now.

We are currently building:

3 Hoop Houses - two will only be semi mobile
1+ chicken tractor - this is wjere the babies go after the brooder, but before the hoop houses
1 coop for Turkeys
1 coop for Geese
Fencing in Goose run
Fencing Turkey run
Fening 5+ chicken runs
7 sets of nest boxes
2 super brooders - (4) 48" X 32" shelves stacked 4 high and insulated
Brooder Shed

I'm hoping to finish 2 of the hoop houses by Friday (hubby does have the day off

)

and the list goes on..............

We are doing several of those. Building a broody pen, building a silkie run and coop, working on the pigeon loft and changing the roof on the chicken pens.

I'm building a coop/run for my "first ever" chickens, and raised garden boxes and a garden fence for my "first ever" garden... it's a year of 1st's for me

I'm also going to be building a brooder for my little ones who arrive mid-May.
If you're curious you can read all about my construction progress here.

I need to build a run for the chickens,a run for the cats,and fence off part of the yard so the dogs stop pooping everywhere. I also need to repaire the metal shed the chickens are in.Roof is leaking.

I am starting a grow out pen for my babies tomorrow, go to get them out of the house (they are only a couple of weeks old). I am also working on a turkey house, and hoop houses for the meat chickens. Oh, and a tractor for the bantams. Wait, I forgot, I am also expanding my garden so I have to make the fencing bigger, and gates for my garden fence. I think thats it for now.
